    Rabbit droppings for plant food?

I've actually done this (used rabbit droppings, not ate the rabbit) but it was many years ago when in my early teens. It was in a 2 foot tank with a few tetras and a siamese fighter, planted with crypts and swords. It wasn't succcesful. Large sulphurous bubbles kept coming out and the gravel...

    GH Booster and E.I Dosing

I think the confusion with the calculator is that people may think it's going to tell them how to make a solution for their tank and how much of it to dose. Hence, you put in your tank size and the solution size you want to make up and then it tells you you need to add x tsp (or grams) and the...

    ProFito

The problem with many ferts out there (not just this one) is that they claim to do everything for everyone which is misleading. Instead of doing their own research and using scientific data they just print what they think people want to see to sell the product.

    ProFito

Yeah, no wonder people starting out get confused. Most people automatically believe the labels and marketing of these products as surely they're the ones that have done all the research..... They do make a valid point though: "In any case Von Liebig's law of the minimum applies : if one...

    ProFito

I had a look at AE for easycarbo and it mentioned the associated fertiliser ProFito, so I had a look at that as well. In the AE description there were mutliple references to how this is everything you need in a bottle, no need to dose anything else but it didn't actually say what was in it. I...

    idiots guide for me please

BGA grows very fast when it gets a hold, but it doesn't spring from nothing overnight. I suspect that it was there before but only became noticeable overnight. Low nitrates maybe right but IME the presence of BGA is due to poor filtration (this may lead to a drop in nitrates due to the...

    Off the shelf dosing

I ripped out all my vallis as it was growing like a weed, using a whole bottle of Excel in a 3' seemed to make no difference to it, although I never overdosed and never dosed directly onto it.

    Ferts Help

The secret of mixing ridiculously small amounts of ferts is to make up a solution with RO water and use that for dosing. I've not done it, but I'm sure someone will clarify. As for the pH crash issue, I can understand your concern. However, as long as water changes are regular there shouldn't...

Growing plants like HC and glosso without adding nutrients

Didn't Zig show this in his award winning tank where only horticultural grit was used as the substrate? Mind you, that's the opposite of what we started out with - the growth of plants with a lean water column. In nature, how abundant are nutrients in the water? I assume these are lean as well...

    TPN v PMDD Trace

Does that just mean it holds onto the metal for longer, giving more of a 'slow release" than the fast hit powder?

    Name the deficiency

I remember reading when I was looking at T5s that one of the claims was that the controller is alot more "efficient" then the old magnetic type and runs alot cooler. Whether the wattage stated on the bulbs is just the bulbs/tubes themselves or the unit as a whole I'm not sure.

    Name the deficiency

Regarding that last statement, when people refer to watts per gallon are they talking T8s or T5s? If I'm running 2wpg T8 then is that equivalent to 6wpg (T8) if I'm running T5s? I know it's only a rule of thumb, but it should have some kind of basis behind it otherwise it's completely useless.

    Measuring doses

Why would dosing cause problems? I thought high nutrient levels didn't cause algae? I was going to inject CO2 at the same time as increasing the light, but I got the T5 controller off ebay and then ran out of money for the CO2! I've been considering using DIY CO2 for the moment until I can...

    Measuring doses

Hi all, I've been wondering this for some time, but felt a little silly asking it! How do you measure 1/64 of a teaspoon? What's equivalent to a healthy pinch? Also, do you think I should dose potassium in a tank with no CO2 but a decent amount of light? It's 36"lx15"wx18"h with two T5s. I've...

Magnesium Sulphate... do you dose it?

Isn't the assumption here that the Ca test is measuring CaCO3? Couldn't there also be CaSO4? CaCl? Or are these not soluble?
