It was set up for some time but was stable from day one. I can absolutely accept that it was coincidental - I got lucky, and the cable had nothing to do with anything.
Apologies for digging up an old thread but it's relevant... I've just stumbled upon this theory and it has piqued my interest. Casting my mind back, the single most successful planted aquarium I had, in term of being genuinely algae free, included a heated cable in the gravel. I also enjoyed...
Cichlid keepers who have to stock their tanks quite densely (with fish, that is) from the start often seem to use (and like) Tetra Safestart. I've no idea if it is any good. There are boosters and boosters - some add a waste product for the filter to start working on whereas others add the...
An external filter would have been nice but this tank is sitting on my office desk and I don't want a filter knocking about underneath. HOB is not really possible due to the fitted lid on the tank.
I was thinking about the Eheim 2006 or possibly the Fluval U1. Eheim always seem to be good.
OK, so the Aqua Flo 1 that came with the Aqua 40 tank (30 x 30 x 30cm) rumbles like a diesel engine - it's very bad.
I have used an Eheim Aqua Ball in this tank in the past but it's really too big.
Anyone any suggestions for compact internal filters?
I suspect you've found the cause of your problem. I thought the magnet was part of the impeller (i.e. it should come out for cleaning too, leaving just a plastic lined cavity in the head), although it's been some time since I've owned an Eheim Classic.
Whenever my Eheim gets air trapped I switch it off, connect a syphon tube to the outlet in the tank, and suck it out. You waste a bit of water but it always works.
Can you not disconnect the tube from the tap and plumb it straight on to the filter? (Your mention of tap makes me think it's a Classic?)
Or... try a bit of vaseline (or silicon grease if you have it - the one for potable water) around the tap washers etc.
Or... erm... can you see what is at...
The 2324 does not use a probe. There is nothing that needs to go in the tank (other than the inlet and outlet tubes, of course...)
Mine's just fine my 70 ltr.
