The ferts were changed about 4 weeks after starting to see the growth spurt, as a result in the increase demand.
But I do agree, often it's difficult to pinpoint one factor and separate the cause and effect
I'd counter that from my experience using Easy Carbo made a marked improvement to the growth of most things in my last tank.
The system was running for about 4 months when I started dosing, daily with a dosing pump.
Within weeks there was a marked improvement in growth, my grassbed literally...
Hobby room for mine.
Have had to automate the tank as I work away and the house is empty when I'm not here, so needed the space above for doser and under for auto water changes.
Excuse the mess, I've only lived in the place 3 wks so far.
In marine tanks I always ran light over the sump to grow algae on the opposite cycle to the tank as the oxygenation etc then balances the PH.
Also you don't want your sump competing with your display for CO2
I do believe that alot of keepers long term success, especially fighting algae, comes down to lack of attention to cleaning filters.
Things aren't looking good, ammonia readings are still good so it can't be the filter, so we struggle to figure out what it is.
We don't realise that a poorly...
At last the time has come :)
Heres my baby flowering for the first time since I got her 14 months ago.
Gutted I'll be away for a week while its flowering but I'm just happy to have been home at all to see it lol
Thanks for looking guys :)
I'd also say go for the 5kg as the 2 will not last that long.
I recon you'd get away with only one regulator but I'd say you'd need to use a reactor inline with your filter instead and use a few powerheads to make sure there is enough flow to carry it fully around the tank.
I'm running that...
Is that the clearseal tank? I was looking at one of them to se as a reef :)
The main problem I think you will find with the tank is the depth will be a problem for demanding carpeting plants unless you have some really good lighting.
Other than that I think you've got alot of options.
With...
Tanks only been running 4 weeks so another restart out of the question lol
Hopefully a little more light will make my stems a little more bushy and the HC spread quicker!
Was going to leave it a while to see how I get on with my 2x 30w T8's on the 300lt but my stems are telling me to get some new lighting.
I've just ordered a 6x 54w T5 unit
I'll prob use 2 lamps to begin with then move to 3 eventually but I doubt I'll ever use 6 on a planted tank...
I'm not sure exactly would be the best, its really a case of try and see :) try a few different plaements with the powerhead.
I've got 2 spraybars and two powerheads in mine, was aiming for a circular flow but wanted to push the co2 enriched water down before it got to mix with the surface...
prob better along the side then if thats the case.
you might be wise to get a powerhead or two if you are doing this then as it will be hard to get the flow all the way along the tank and back.
lol
It is a strange word!!! Chuffed lol
Why not run both filters through one or two spray bars covering the full length of the tank?
You would then get a good flow down the front glass, across the bottom front to back then up the back glass.
Great if you are aiming to have some carpeting...
You should see about getting drop checkers asap really.
Always helps to have some sort of guage to know where you are at. I've got one on each end just to be sure.
If it helps you I'm only running 2 30W T8's and everythings growing. Even the HC's got new growth and the leaves on the new stuff seems smaller than the old (which is a good sign I believe).
I'd start off with 2 if I were you, at a push maybe 4. I'd say the 4/6 would be great on a reef but too...
i'm glad i'm finally in the position to give some advice lol.
you defo seem to be on the right track for a great setup.
i'm going to start a journal tonight and will put links to most of the stuff i've bought and the reasearch i've done before secting things. hopefully some of it will be of...
Dave, sounds like a good setup you've got running :)
to answer your questions from my experiance and what I've read.
1) Removing the other filters slowly will be fine, if you can use some of your media from the other filters inside the FX5 for a period of time to assist seeding the FX's media...
Woop woop, have been playing around with the scape the last few days and as of lunch time today I was happy with it.
This afternoon I removed all the plants from my 80 and 40 lt tanks and planted them into the new one.
I'm actually surprised how much I've got tbh, with the rockwork etc and the...
Thats me finally home from afghan and ready to start setting up my 300lt.
I've got all the stuff I need and am getting really excited.
I'm a little dissapointed though as my current tanks that I'm taking my plants from are looking a little sorry for themselves.
My wifes father went into...
been refunded now :)
Have checked with Hydor and they are intending on getting items to UK retailers sometime in Jan with full production resumed in Feb.
Still gutted I've not got mine, can easy wait though.
Its a shame that I've been put off buying from CCA though as their range seemed...
I was looking around for a hydor 300 external heater for ages and most suppliers were marked as out of stock.
I found cardiff city aquatics had it marked as instock on their website so I paid for it there and then.
2 weeks later I emailed them and asked where it was, it was only then I was...
oh, forgot the ferts!!!
Will be dosing with dry ferts doing the EI method.
I was tempted to upgrade the lighting from the standard T8's but was shown a fair few threads where people are moving away from the higher end of lighting with good results. I will start off with the T8s but may upgrade...

just two fishy type ones, here and aquaticcommunity regularly.
I have registered on the barr report, tfk, aberdeen fish keepers and a few others but rarely use them.
I'm also a regular on a few various car forums and I'm a rep on one of the busiest ones :)
Its exactly the jungle look I want lol
How long has your setup been running?
I can't wait to get mine started, have to wait till december to do it though as I'm stuck out here in afghanistan :(
I think the JBL proflora does use a different size connector so you have to buy their tanks right enough.
Just thought I'd mention the possibilities as £80 for a bottle of CO2 seems quite pricey. If you're happy with your setup and it works then thats defo all that matters!
Hopefully the...
The tank has been purchased, I've got an Aqua one 300lt waiting for me when I get home.
Have also now bought a CO2 regulator and other bits from Aquaessentials so the plan is slowly coming together.
Now do I stick with the plan above or do I change the scape?
Have had a little read up about Kribs and they seem like the fish to have :)
My only thoughts are that I fancied a couple of bright fish and the pics of the kribs I've seen seem a little dull :(
I would like to get a breeding pair as my friend runs a fish store and would be happy to take fish...
some great suggestions here.
I think I've decided against the vivarium on account of wanting to lower the maintainance of the tank.
I'm currently growing in alot of stuff for the 300 in it for when I get round to setting the 300 up (i'm in afghanistan till nov) so it will be pretty bare once I...
I'm going to be moving all my stock into my new 300lt when I get it all up and running but I want to do something with the 80lt once its done.
its 24" long, 12" deep and 18" high.
Currently it has gravel and plants but I'm totally open to ideas for both stock and style.
I have an external...
I can't wait to get it lol
I'm stuck in Afghanistan till December so will be ordering everthing in ready to start the week I get home!
I see from your username you are a Vauxhall man, are you in any clubs? I'm a rep over on VVOC.
Been throwing some ideas about for when I get my next tank (min 250lt max 400lt) and this is where I am,
I was planing just using about 2" of sand (not to be planted) on the lowest level (bottom right) then stepping up to 4" then 6" depths of planting substrate at the higher levels.
The tank...
