Hmm. I'm assuming you are saying that the light wasn't enough for high light plants in this case then? I was thinking of 2 feet above the tank in a 45cm height tank and was hoping to grow HC, GE or pogostemon helferi in the foreground... Guess I might have to rethink that idea.

I normally just twist the bulb to disconnect it but leave the bulb in there without taking it out. Seemed to work ok with me.

You have a 24" tall tank and you are using just about 1.3wpg lighting with T5HO. I have to blast my 50L tank with 48 watts T5HO to get them to grow horizontal. Why would you get algae outbreak if you increase your lighting? Even if you run all 4 tubes together, you are only getting just above...

It's difficult for other to help if they don't know what exactly the specification of the tanks are. If the plants are not growing well then something somewhere must have gone wrong. So by knowing the spec and detail, the expert here might be able to shed more light into your situation.

Tank size, Co2 regime, fertilisation scheme and substrate can be very important in trying to grow HC well. If you get the balance of the first 3 right, the subtrate won't be much of a problem.

The seller that I think you are referring to is EQJ Trading. I've got mine from them for 50 quid including changing the tubes and postage. Too bad the unit didn't come with a hingeable stand. You have to either push the unit backwards or totally remove it to access the tank. Dan

hmmm I thought you said you wanted to grow HC emersed? How do you inject CO2 in your water when your water column is most probably not going to be less than 1 cm tall?

What's the height of the tank? If it's 18"-24" tall then I'm afraid that the light is not going to grow much plants besides java fern and anubias.or other low light plants. You will have difficulties growing more demanding plants.that requires higher light intensity.
