I just use a propagator to grow them to start off with and then leave a small slit in the propagator lid by displacing it sideways and then over the next 2 weeks moving it out. Otherwise, you can just snip off all the leave and plant the stump in a substrate fill with water. The new leaves that...
It's not that hard. It just need time to acclimatise. Once they are acclimatised, you can grow them at room air humidity but just need to make sure that the roots has access to plenty of water.
Mine grows pretty well above the water surface as long as the stem and roots are in the water column itself. I find that once they are adapted to the humidity in the atmosphere, they do just fine. It's the transition part that was the hardest. One mistake and you get a dried plant.
I'm...
I would say with 35W lighting there should be enough unless you are trying to light up a 4 feet long area. I don't use cling film but instead I use one of those underbed storage boxes that comes with their own lids. I just left the lid slightly ajar. You can use any fertiliser you want but bear...
you can cause the leave to burn if you place the light source too closely. Plant that has adapted to emerse growth will cope just fine with the light but they cannot tolerate the heat that T5 dissipate at times. High heat will also cause more water to vapourise. If you have fresh cutting in rock...
You shouldn't need more than lighting from the window sill to keep them growing. That's how I grow mine anyway. Fertilisation is minimal and titre it according to the ratio you would use on the main tank. I only use water from the main tank and then add in a splash of extra fert when I can remember.
Re: My emersed growth setup for the first time. Any suggesti
I'm trying to grow bolbitis heudelotti on rockwool. Looks like it's going to be a challenge to change from the submersed leaves to the emersed leaves. It looks like it's a slow grower too. My submersed plant grow much quicker.
Re: My emersed growth setup for the first time. Any suggesti
Rockwool pH is 8.5 and need rinsing and pH adjusting. and if you have expensive shrimp in your tank, it's dangerous for the shrimp because of the small fragments of rockwool can cause them hazard when they graze on it. Filter floss...
Re: My emersed growth setup for the first time. Any suggesti
I'm intending to grow everything on filter floss in the end. The Staurogyne is easy to grow and so is the prosepinaca and anubias. The only thing that is unpredictable is the utricularia. I started off with 4 pots and only 1 made it...
I'm just showing my emersed growth that I have for the first time. It's a simple setup with very little water changes and no water movement at all. Plants are mostly grown in filter floss and the scrap rockwool that I can find lying around. I've been keeping the humidity in the dome at 100% with...
I've been told that regular flooding every 3-4 days will not only prevent fungus from growing, it also stop mites from developing. How much water column fertilisation is too much for an emersed setup? Too much fertiliser and the plant wither, so does that mean I am trying to aim for the same...
Just wondering if there is a pump circulating the water in your tank? Is that pogostemon helferi and Hc in one of the pots? I've been wanting to grow P. Helferi emersed as well but not sure how quick they grow compare to the submerged version. I'll be starting an emersed setup after I moved to...
