    Photoperiod

Ceg4048 What would you say is the minimum worthwhile photoperiod length- in terms of plant physiology and efficiency. Thanks .
  2. darren636

    Light requirements

Its a lot of light for the volume of water. See if you can raise the light or angle it away from the water surface. You don't need more than 6 hours light per day.
  3. darren636

    Light requirements

You have too much light. Get a drop checker !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  5. darren636

  6. darren636

One 9 hours light period, or 3 X 3 housr lighting period per day?

3 x 3 light period. Good Lord that's outrageously over complicated.

Led lighting: Tmc gro beam or fluval aqualife and plant?

that surprises me. In a good way.
  16. darren636

Led lighting: Tmc gro beam or fluval aqualife and plant?

What's omg with t5 ? Some leds use a lot of energy- defeats the point really
  17. darren636

    T5's with these plants.

Depends on water volume/ depth of tank. But yes, should be fine. Unless the tank is bottomless.
  18. darren636

Led lighting: Tmc gro beam or fluval aqualife and plant?

You will need lots of led to cover 5 feet of water. Probably 3 1500 tiles
  19. darren636

Anyone have an Arcadia 1W spotlight?

Yes , that's the problem with online shopping. It can be a pain
  20. darren636

Anyone have an Arcadia 1W spotlight?

Keep your reciept and get a refund if they fail
  21. darren636

    What to do?

Really low growing plants dude. Need their vitamins. We hulkamaniacs need to ensure co2 delivery to the substrate man. that's the issue, and not always easy, brother.
  22. darren636

Would this be good enough for a 12" deep 60l tank?

The second is a beamswork. It should do the job. But getting close to the price of the new light bar on Ian holdich's journal. Check it out. " back to my roots"
  23. darren636

Would this be good enough for a 12" deep 60l tank?

I doubt it. But until you see it in action its hard to tell
  24. darren636

    What to do?

With decent reflectors , you will increase intensity by about 50%. As stated above, you can always add more light as plant mass increases.
  25. darren636

    What to do?

It will be enough with reflectors no doubt.

  35. darren636

What photoperiod do our plants really need ?

    party time, baby. :p
  36. darren636

    My light is correct?

Ph computers can be a problem. They tend to fluctuate co2 levels. You need a nice , constant co2 injection rate. With good co2 flow - but not a tornado!
  37. darren636

What photoperiod do our plants really need ?

    Mine are on four hours.
  38. darren636

    My light is correct?

225 w over 360 litres needs good flow and co2. Ph computers can cause issues
  39. darren636

    My light is correct?

Its a lot if light. Maybe too much
  40. darren636

    Lighting times

indeed. Its something that I am weirdly excited about- flexible led lighting. Looking like tmc aquaray and controller.
  41. darren636

    Lighting times

Only if they run out of food and carbon
  42. darren636

    Lighting times

The plants don't care . Fish will appreciate a slow ramp up / down though. Its your tank, have the lights on to suit you.

Thanks Tom, you saved me a bunch of money and the hassle of returning it! . I cannot abide... Noise.
  51. darren636

light reflectors double my out put?

they will increase intensity for sure. But more light often leads to issues with algae. You are injecting co2? What ferts are you using?
  52. darren636

    Would this led be suitable?

    Beamsworks are not very bright.
  53. darren636

Can anyone review 120w led pendent ?

Any updates? Thinking how to suspend these units...

    LED Floodlight

interesting. Would like to see one in action
  58. darren636

    good first choice?

    THAT WILL BE FINE.
  59. darren636

    Advice needed on tube choice.

i agree with nry. as long as they fit, and are of a colour you like, buy the cheapest. Lampsecs are a good supplier.
  60. darren636

    Lighting Advice Needed

depends on how much flow you need. It is fine as a filter to house your friendly bacteria. But plants and high light demand higher flow to circulate the co 2. So, it is fit for original purpose.
  61. darren636

    Lighting Advice Needed

jewel internals work fine for what they are. I needed more flow and flexibility so i dumped it. Ugly space invader of a thing. Jewel lights are perfect for most tanks. Internal co2 diffusers work well too, as long as you find a good flow pattern with your filter or powerhead.
  62. darren636

    Lighting Advice Needed

if it is the tetra stuff, i stopped using it a while ago. Think mine was the slime coat one though. Unless there is a specific reason to dose extra water conditioner i would not do it.
  63. darren636

    Lighting Advice Needed

any reason for triple dosing your water conditioner?
  64. darren636

    My first planted tank

    vanilla chocolate fudge? Pfffff.
  65. darren636

    Lighting Advice Needed

if the white things are now in the water column then it must be precipitation of some kind i think.... Maybe your ferts?
  66. darren636

    Lighting Advice Needed

can you wipe away these white things?
  67. darren636

    Lighting Advice Needed

ha ha! If you think your tank is bad- you should have seen mine after i got back from holiday :(
  68. darren636

    Lighting Advice Needed

stick a picture up. The answers are right here. We just have to find them.
  69. darren636

    Lighting Help Needed

are you planning on using co2? If not then brighter lighting will not be needed
  70. darren636

    Lighting time requirements

12 hours is crazy talk at that level, cut that in half and maybe even reduce the number of tubes
  71. darren636

    TMC 1000ND Growbeam Tile

I'll give you a Tenner for the tile ;) i want one- very nice things.
  72. darren636

    Vision 260 high-lite tubes

i run two daylight and one nature. But i prefer all daylight- it just looks brighter. Iquatics sell a range of juwel compatible tubes.
  73. darren636

how much light would i need to grow hairgrass?

you have light :) just add some minerals and nutrients, via an all in one liquid or buy the starter kit from aquarium plant food UK. Or simply use root tablets.
  74. darren636

how much light would i need to grow hairgrass?

plants will not grow without food. Light makes plants grow but without food they die. More light will not help. Get some plant food in there.
  75. darren636

    how much light please .

any pictures? What filtration do you have and do you feed the plants? also is your tank t8 or t5 lights?
  76. darren636

    New tank set-up...

yes. any tube will do, white ...warm white etc .
  77. darren636

    New tank set-up...

iquatics and lampspecs give good prices on new tubes. do not pay 25£ per tube!
