I presume you are talking about a betta Splendens that’s been imported
So it’s been in about 200ml of water once it was big enough to be sexed
Therefore it’s never experienced a large space or even plants so a nice aquascape aquatium will be a good home for him
If you can have a small ledge...
I’ve always wondered if it was possible to buy the rain forest ?
Surely there’s enough people around the world to contribute and buy it
But then the problem is how to protect it
The locals need to eat etc
There needs to be a way for locals to make money without destroying it
Eco tourism ...
we humans collect stuff from plastic traffic cones to real live Elephants and everything in between it’s a bit weird when you think about that [emoji23]
But we have always brought in things from nature to our homes to decorate them such as holy and ivy during cold northern winters way before it...
I think if you want imported wood and wood that is ethically and environmentally sourced then the price would be many times what it is currently
So I guess it’s either find hardscape locally or do without and do more Dutch style aquascapes (I can think of much worse things)

Where’s the section of this forum that promotes native aquascaping ?
Surely even in the UK we have enough native plants to have a go at this ?
I’m not knocking this forum in any way as I think it’s brilliant but is this something that our hobby should be encouraging ?

I really love this hobby and have done so for over 30 years but it’s an industry that isn’t particularly ecofriendly due to our species greed and strange behaviour of having to own things
Wild caught fish demand a higher price by the end retailer compared with farmed specimens of the same...
I know for a fact that people in Indonesia go into the forest searching for the right type of plants (azalea etc) to dig up for the roots which are then exported by the container load to China
Due to what I do I get offered all sorts of stuff like this people just send me pics in hope that I...
The ply is just a back support
(it hides the lighting wires)
the main riparium section is going to be made from black acrylic so it matches with the black back of the aquarium
Hopefully the water will drip from tray to tray as they will be layered up the wall
Thinking of putting green mesh...
Playing about with lighting
This is the current height that the background above the tank will be not the final positioning of the lights they will be level with the front curve of the tank so minimising light pollution to the rest of the room
Thinking of using some ply to follow the curve of...
Well this must be a record for the slowest scape ever [emoji4]
So I’ve restarted this after a long time
I’ve bought an eheim pump and made a housing for it and the stainless steel heater
Inside it will have 4” of coarse grade foam above the filter to act mostly as a mechanical filter.
I’ve...
Silviu Man thank you for sharing that
It's a very relaxing video
I hope you share your build with us
Some of the problems I'm trying to work through at the moment are
1. How to contain the water within the area I want it and how to protect the house walls - I'm thinking of either acrylic...
Anyone any tips on how to grow the immersed plants ?
I've a few ideas
1. Use multiple rows of guttering filled with Leca so it's my filter too
2. Use a foam the create a gentle slope and insert plastic cups for planting
Was going to use acrylic as the backing but I don't think it will be...
Omg yeah I never noticed the bird
If you look there's a mess on the back of s light and a nest on the left hand side
What an amazing idea

Hi all now that the decorating is nearly finished [emoji24]time to turn my attention to my old mate whose been in our lounge about 10 years it's been many things in the past including general community all the way through to a lake tangyanika tank, all have been fish first, plants if possible...
I've found the hotter the water you soak it in the faster it soaks it up and the faster it stops leaching
I've a mate who puts all new wood in the dishwasher- his wife has no idea what he gets up to while she's out shopping [emoji23]
