    MAD QUESTION... LISTEN UP

Good evening I just moved and now my fish live on the 1st floor. I have a water but on the ground floor. The tank is roughly 13 meters from the but. I bought 15 meters of hose. Basically I want to fill my tank with collected rain water and need a pump that I can hook up to transfer the...

    HOB vs Canister

Over the winter I broke down my eheim 2217 system and split the livestock and plants into two smaller tanks. one very small HOB and another with a sponge filter. over the 5 months til now, I have had great success with HC Cuba, Riccia and Java moss. now that the sun is out, I have started up the...

    Quick question...

It is all still on the drawing board. But the tank is 61cm x 51cm footprint. The base is about 70cm high made of 18mm birch ply. I was hoping to build an acrylic sump almost the same size as the tank in the space below. The tank has been drilled as I mentioned, and I will be drilling two...

    Quick question...

Cheers, Is there a formula to work this element into the mix? The flow only needs to go up about 30mm with no bends. I was going to get the largest pump possible, and then t off a valve to adjust the flow. Just looking for some reassurance. Also another quick one. I have a tank drilled from...

    Quick question...

When trying to gauge the size pump I need for an aquarium (133l) do I also need to take into consideration the sump volume as well? (80l) Cheers R Sent

2217 left off for a month

Yes I'd rather not have to buy new media.(apart from the floss) But at the moment boiling media in a diluted bleach. Along with the blue sponges, which seem pretty hardy. I'll see how they fare. Cheers R Sent

2217 left off for a month

What about just bleaching the old media? Or running it through the dishwasher, then cycling it with water a few days? I'm in no hurry to get back up an running. I have soil soaking and need to test my flow and plumbing. R Sent

2217 left off for a month

I have been busy taking care of too many things this month. Broke down my tank, and left my eheim 2217 off with stagnate water in it. I assume the bacteria is all dead (hence the smell). If i want to get it back up and running, what should I do? Cheers R Sent

    Spraybar up?

I've read that people have had luck with it on the outtake of the canister. But you need to make sure that both the canister and the pump are of equal LPH. And yes I have thought of a sump. If I had a sump over the holidays, then the water in my tank would have stayed high enough not to expose...

    Spraybar up?

Initially in my previous tank. I had a 70cm spraybar across the back and it circulated beautifully. the intake on the left worked fine, but I had a dead space in the right corner. Which made me think that splitting the intake to cover both corners would solve that. The 2217 is slightly over...

    Spraybar up?

I have an inline diffuser at the moment, But I am contemplating a pinwheel diffuser in the loop just before the out of the 2217. But that might be a long time down the road. My OCD obsession at the moment is a clean rimless edge. Wiping it down every night... So plumbing it from the bottom as...

    Spraybar up?

Sorry Just thinking aloud and missing your concern... If I turn off the canister. Reach in, and unscrew the spray bar or intake from the bulkhead, clean it, then screw it back in, and turn the canister back on... Where would that go wrong? The canister would still be connected from the...

    Spraybar up?

Thanks mate I think I may drill it, plumb it, fill it, then play around with different arrangements. The scape will be relatively flat. I just want to limit any reason why things won't grow. R Sent

    Spraybar up?

I would think that if the spray bar was removable. It is under the waterline in a closed loop so where would the water go? Sent

    Spraybar up?

I am planning a new tank, And was thinking of drilling the bottom to hide the intake and spraybar... Would this work...(see picture) I figure that if the spraybar shot up, And bounced off an 45 degree glass wall siliconed in the rear of the tank, That it would hopefully circle back round to...

    Biological sponge filter

I have just read a few blogs that say you can just squeeze a media sponge from a seasoned tank into the water, And the bacteria will take hold immediately. Is that true? Sent

    Biological sponge filter

Ace, Thanks The floss actually serves as a media to slow down my flow a bit. The 2217 really pushes water through my 100l tank. The floss slows it down and polishes up my water. The sponge is in transit, so I can't really start cultivating. If it doesn't come today, I may pop down to ADC and...

    Biological sponge filter

Also the hinge pin in all this, is I was given about 20 shrimp that are a variety of sizes, but too small to go into the big tank. (Strainer) I have less than 7 days to set them up in a low maitence living environment until I return in the new year. I could put it on the intake, or make room...

    Biological sponge filter

Next problem... I leave to go stateside on the 20th for a fortnight. Which means I don't have time to cultivate bacteria in the BSF. So I am thinking two options: No filter, just an air stone. Or I could pull out some nice old raggedy floss from the 2217, and make a DIY sponge filter. (...

    Biological sponge filter

I bought a BSF to try my hand at breeding shrimp in a 32l tank. Could I put the sponge filter in my 2217 eheim canister on the larger tank to gather bacteria to help cycle the smaller one? If so how long would I have to leave it in the canister? Cheers R Sent

    2217 with dual intakes...?

I was looking at plumbing to split my intake, and fish fur feather has 16mm pipe. Can I use that throughout, intake and out? I wanted to also plumb the spray bar and take both the intakes and the spraybar through the tank via bulkheads. I figured that even though I would be using larger tubing...
