    JBL Ferropol, should I bother?

Might as well use it to add extra iron and traces to your tank.

    A Very Lazy Man....

How much lighting over those tanks if I may ask.

Switched to EI - What went wrong

According to Seachem's website, Equilibrium doesn't contain chelated iron, so it might react with phosphates. Better to dose the micros on separate days then. You can actually easily test this, though I've only read it but never actually tried it. Put some KH2PO4 and some Equilibrium in some...

    DIY ROOT TABS

I agree that this is easier than using gel caps. Gel caps have a lot of air in them and tend to be floaty and difficult to insert properly, even if you stuff them completely with ferts.

    DIY ROOT TABS

Correct me if I'm wrong, but don't you need the slow release type terrestrial fertilisers? Else it'd just leach completely into the water column. Don't know if the substrate can lock it in quick enough? Most people seem to use Osmocote Plus, which is a slow release fertiliser with NPK + some micros.

Dosing whilst on 1 week holiday

Thanks Ian. I thought the ascorbic acid was there to prevent mould from developing. I usually dose my big tank once a week after a water change, all macros and micros required for EI. My smaller tank is dosed daily, both macros and micros at the same time. Maybe time for an experiment ;)

Dosing whilst on 1 week holiday

Personally I wouldn't make any big changes before going on holiday. But since you're going in a week or two, there's plenty of time to monitor. I've had a few incidents where I cleaned my filter or did something big the day before and caused a disaster whilst I was away for a weekend. This...

    Seachem Flourish Trace Elements

I'd say dose it at the recommended amount 3 times a week. So if the instructions are to dose 1 cap once or twice a week, dose 1 cap 3 times a week at first, then watch for deficiencies. If there aren't any, you can consider reducing it and continue to watch for deficiencies. Trace dosing is...

    Seachem Flourish Trace Elements

Hi Jaap. Trace elements aren't needed in huge amounts so just dose according to the instructions and increase accordingly if you start seeing plant deficiencies. Do you dose Seachem Flourish or Flourish Trace? Trace doesn't contain any Iron, so you need to source it elsewhere. If you're dosing...

Potassium Nitrate (KNO3) Purchased from Internet

I was quite glad when I got home, opened up my container of KNO3 and saw that big lump in the corner  It does have a whiff of blue cheese but only if I stick my nose quite close to it. Never noticed that before. Speaking of BGA, I saw a patch of BGA in my tank about 3 inches long and...

How I add dry powders (video)

Great video, that'll help to ease fears for newcomers to dry salts. Would be nice to post a few videos showing how well the tank is going too! I guess you are getting Mg from the traces. Here's a question I asked about MgSO4 a while ago. viewtopic.php?f=11&t=7478&start=0

    Trace dosing

ceg, that makes it quite clear to me now. Been trying to wrap my head around calculating ppms from percentages and all that. Turns out I just needed you. Thanks again! The 1 kg bag of Mikrom I bought costs the same as one 500ml bottle of Seachem Trace. And I calculated it would...

    Trace dosing

Save on worry, I like that. Thanks ceg! But seriously though, who measured the amount of traces to dose in the first place? :eh: Was it through observation?

    Trace dosing

Hey guys, I haven't been able to figure out how trace elements are dosed according to EI. From what I read, it doesn't matter much since the uptake is low, so amounts are measured by the Iron concentration. I bought these trace elements powder - http://www.auasia.com.my/products_cifo_mikrom.htm...

    About Magnesium

*sweeps brain matter off the floor* Thanks for the explanation as usual! Guess I will continue to dose MgSO4 since its not expensive and is quite easy to come by. I'm doing 3-week cycles of EI now, trying to tune the solution as I see fit.

    About Magnesium

I've been trying to find out what is Magnesium needed for in a planted tank, besides raising the GH. If my GH is high enough, do I still need to add MgSO4 to my EI solution? Thanks.
