    Plant Combinations ?

I quite like the look of glosso + riccia, but I don't like the maintenance of it.

How can I Improve more (500lts planted)

Hey Chris, that's an interesting overflow box. Looks like you use 3 lilies to suck water from the overflow box thats inside the tank, into the first part of the overflow box thats outside the tank, which then overflows again to the second part? What's the benefit of doing this?

How can I Improve more (500lts planted)

With the stuff you have now, I'd just keep the spraybar at the current location, open-ended. The place the powerhead next to it on the left side glass, pointing in the same direction as the open end of the spray bar. So the flow goes from left to right, back to front.

    Micranthemum 'Monte Carlo' carpet

You obviously haven't been reading some of the other hot threads on UKAPS lately. :D It's not just rocket science, its thereoretical quantum physics too! Great tank... Micranthemum 'Monte Carlo' carpet

Out of topic but the aquatools calculator recommends 10-20ppm Ca and 2-5ppm Mg. I thought EI recommends 10ppm Mg. It doesn't recommend Ca, but I follow the 5:1 Mg:Ca rule so I dose 2ppm Ca per week. So is the calculator correct for MG and Ca?

    Micranthemum 'Monte Carlo' carpet

That's an impressive comeback. Are you still using Akadama as a substrate? The Monte carlo in my tank took months to establish, before that it looked exactly like yours. But after it was established, it even grew very well in the shade of crypts.

Frustrated..changed to bigger tank and can't grow plants anymore!!!

Funny you should mention that, I've had very little success with plants in jelly. While everyone's been having great success, mine just melts away or grows very slowly. They're not from established nurseries like Tropica or Anubias. The latest issue of TFH has an article on these plants...

Rotala rotundifolia don't branch after trim

I've got a bunch of Rotala rotundifolia that don't branch (2 branches from the trimmed stem) after they are trimmed. Does anyone know why this is so? Is it due to a lack of light or nutrients or CO2? Here's a picture of the stems, I didn't take a close up shot. IMG_20141208_092720 by flygja, on...

    Diy co2 and shrimps

I don't use DIY CO2, but I wouldn't take the risk of using a regulator with soda PET bottles either. From what I've read, there are some variations in yeast, sugar and water. And if you were distracted and made a mistake when mixing which results in higher CO2 production, it could be potentially...

    Diy co2 and shrimps

Just curious but is it advisable to use a solenoid with DIY CO2? Turning the solenoid off will mean that CO2 pressure is gonna build in the DIY bottles!

    1-2 Grow Storage?

Thanks Darrel and Supercoley. I can see how the sealed gel cup could have high humidity and therefore emulating an emersed environment. But what about O2 and CO2 needs? How do the plants last so long without air exchange? I think I remember seeing a video with (I think) Oliver Knott and he was...

    1-2 Grow Storage?

Speaking of this, Oliver Knott has mentioned that tissue culture plants can survive for months in their packaging. How does that happen? Are they in some sorta hibernation or something? He also says that these plants are effectively submersed plants, so no melting due to conversion when planted...

    hydrocotyle sp.japan Carpet

I just trimmed it like how I trim carpet plants - mow them over. In a high tech tank, they grow really quick. I had to trim them weekly to avoid them spreading into other plants like stems. My carpet wasn't as compact though. Here's what mine looks like, from an overgrown and hastily shot...

    Monoselenium (Pellia) and Riccia

Pelia is fine with Yamato shrimps. They don't really eat plants actually. During waterchanges, I was re-using tank water to water some herbs and chillies I was planting and some Ricca actually go into the pots. They were growing a spreading albeit really slowly.

    Question on trimming stem plants.

What sort of stems are those? Some stems like Ludwigia brevipes do not actually sprout side shoots. Well in my experience at least. I think your lighting may not be enough either, especially considering they are T8 tubes.

I'd say that Helanthium tenellum is the easiest but it may not grow low. The hairgrasses are next and don't forget glosso too.

Another plant ID thread I'm afraid

I don't think #1 is Rotala nanjenshan. It should have thinner leaves. It looks like low-tech grown Rotala rotundifolia sp. Green to me.

Help me thin this list of plants down

Whoah... that is one long list to choose from. The way I do it is to choose 2 or 3 plants that I MUST HAVE. Then choose the others to contrast/complement the few. Can I Grow Moss With Siamese Algae Eaters?

They did not eat my Spiky moss and Taiwan moss :) I think one of the tricks it to grow the moss in a tank without SAEs first. Let it grow all nice and lush. I had lush Christmas moss which the SAEs didn't demolish. But they eventually melted due to high temps. When I tried to plant new Christmas...

    Java Moss turning brown

From experience, moss in general do not tolerate high temps. Java moss is the most tolerant of temps above 29'C. I once forgot to turn my chiller back on after a water change and my Xmas moss turned brown when I left for the weekend. Water temps were probably around 31'C. Here's what they...

best way to trim my java fern to get a nice look

From experience, the trick is to let it grow for the first few months but maintain a vigilant eye on it. Cut off any leaves that are growing too long or in the wrong direction. You need to monitor the rhizomes too, it can really grow once it takes off and grow beyond the wood/rock it is attached...

My top tip for trimming moss

Sounds like a great idea. I've had to trim moss while doing a water change with a gravel cleaner just to make sure it all gets sucked up.

Have any of you guys ever had this happen to your moss?

It really depends on what sorta algae you have. Check out http://www.aquariumalgaeeaters.blogspot.com/ for a description of these algae eaters. I'm sorry but I can't tell what type of algae you have, looks more like detritus or slime to me.
