    co2 experiment - timelapse

Hmmm ok... I was just looking at the time period between 18:30 and 19:20 which also ~1 hour.

    co2 experiment - timelapse

So that means your tank uptakes roughly 8ppm of CO2 per hour when the lights are on. That's including losses through degassing of course. Interestingly even with all 4 tubes on, the CO2 uptake doesn't increase. It's still roughly the same time between the pH swing.

    co2 experiment - timelapse

I think you can save some CO2 by turning off the pH controller or CO2 solenoid when the lights are off. So what do you mean by it came out as something else? Was there something else that was expected?

Stephan Mönninghoff on Flickr, Facebook and Extraplant blog

After seeing his blog, I asked my wife if I should relocate my two tanks (300L and 60L) to a particular wall and build a cabinet to enclose it :D Some eye-rolling, comments about messing up the house ensued. But there is a glimmer of hope... :angelic:

    excessive flow and CO2 uptake

Hey Victor, you can remove the tube completely to run an odd number tubes!

    excessive flow and CO2 uptake

It is. EI itself is a bit of a blunt instrument don't you think? In my opinion, it was designed that way to minimise complexities for the new aquascaper.

    excessive flow and CO2 uptake

I think 2x EI is just to carpet bomb shock and awe and remove ferts from the equation. If 2x EI doesn't resolve the issue, then its likely not a fertilisation issue. I remember one of Clive's tanks where he says he had to dose 2-3x EI to maintain plant health and growth. If 2x EI does resolve...

Some questions about light in the eventuality of CO2 not leading to much growth development

Christos, that looks like mega pearling action. What about before double-dosing?

    Kitchen scales to measure CO2

True, and I bet the springs and mechanisms will lose accuracy with few kilos of fire extinguisher on them all the time.

    Kitchen scales to measure CO2

Ol' skool analog scale won't have that problem ;)

Co2 though one or two external filters?

Having two atomisers is also a hit-and-miss for me. I bought two same brand same model atomisers and CO2 just refused to flow through one of them when both are placed in a splitter.

I bet you are all bored of these!!

10-12bps and it still takes 3 hours to drop pH by 1? Have you checked if there is a leak in your CO2 system?

    pH profile during start-up

Am I right to assume that the crushed coral recommended is only for the purpose of increasing the KH so that pH measurements are faster and more accurate? Should it be removed once the pH profile is taken? Or just leave in the filter long term?

    Champagne Co2??

They record their videos and take their pictures with CO2 switched off? LOL. Honestly I'm trying to figure out how to get best diffusion without my tank looking like fizzy pop too.

Just how much C02 do you use!

Same as Ady34, 2kg fire extinguisher takes around 2-3 months on a 300L tank with inline Up! Aqua diffuser. I didn't really count the bps but its about 4-6 bps.

    Am I wasting CO2?

A spraybar is not as good at dispersing CO2 bubbles around the aquarium. I would try to place the diffuser opposite the spraybar. If you have the spraybar on the back of the tank jetting towards the front, then try placing it on one of the two sides, as near the front as possible. Jets from a...

how to clean in line atomiser

I haven't actually cleaned mine in the 2 years that it's been runningo_O . Diffusion is still good, very tiny bubbles like when new.

Drop checker and CO2 mist - is this a problem?

I have seen this with my "new type" UP Aqua inline diffuser compared to my old no-name reactor. I can't say for sure if its better CO2 diffusion or the bubbles getting into the drop checker like you mentioned. Plus the drop checker sometimes remains lime green in the morning!

    Which Bubble Counter

Mine's different. The check valve is a JBL unit between the regulator and cheapo bubble counter and water flows INTO the bubble counter. So it never empties.

    Evaporation and CO2 stability

I think its something like - when the CO2 concentration increases, the plants automatically gear themselves for higher metabolism. If then the concentration drops, the plants can't cope or something. I think someone mentioned this before as another reason why non-CO2 injected tanks should not...

    Broken Solenoid

Is that an Up Aqua unit? Sorry I can't help with your questions, but my colleague has one too, a bigger model with dual-regulator display. It's dodgy! It would sometimes work and sometimes won't. It's currently dead, valve won't open even when power is fed into the solenoid. He asked me to look...

    Harlequin CO2 Sensitivity

My 160L tank had a bubble rate of 2-3bps going through a reactor and I never had this problem. I don't have 4dKH water so I don't test for CO2.

    Absolute diffuser nightmare

Besides checking for leaks, you may want to check your non-return valves too, in case they're leaking or clogged.

    Drop Checker Becomes Clear Immediately

I had this problem with my JBL drop checker too. I think its because the solution is "expired", if there's such a thing.

Getting good CO2 distribution with 2 filters

That's an interesting idea... you should try it out for a bit and see how it performs. How about repositioning the spray bars so that the both push water in the same direction along the length of the tank? In general I prefer to have 2 smaller filters than 1 big filter assuming that the overall...

Getting good CO2 distribution with 2 filters

If you're going with 2 spraybars on the back pane facing forwards, you'd probably have to go with 2 reactors. I had the same setup as you and initially went for a single reactor. In no time at all, the side without the reactor had BBA growing on the rocks! I ended up with 2 reactors, CO2 split...

    Your views on diffusers/reactors?

Personally I prefer an external reactor, which is one less piece of equipment in the tank. In my experience, reactors are more efficient too, as I can run a lower bubble rate compared to a diffuser. My observations are not very scientific though, I just eye the plant growth and pearling. With my...
