I had a nightmare with 2 second hand pro 3 2080 leaking from the heads. I did take the heads apart and found that the priming rubber seal had shrunk so would no longer maintain a seal. Also Eheim used normal steel screws instead of aluminium or stainless steel ones inside so they rusted away. No...
Eheim classics are the best. Get as many double taps to put between equipment such as heaters, inline CO2, inlets, outlets, etc. It will save you a lot of time during maintenance and they basically last a lifetime. The only problem I have with them is priming. Easy when its just filter and tank...
I'm actually in this situation as well. What I'm planning to do is to split the single 25mm output into two 16mm outputs connected to one spraybar each. That will enable me to re-use the spray bars from an Eheim Pro 3 2080 and also it compatible with regular 16/22mm inline accessories. The...
I've junked one of the Eheim Pro 3 2080s. Tried silicone-gluging the area that is leaking but water is still coming in from somewhere. I might not have sealed it properly since there are places very hard to get to. Waiting for my Fluval FX-6 to arrive so I can set it up and check on the other...
Well that was a bust. Water leaked into the head as I tried to prime is by pouring water into the inlet tubes. Yeap, not even with the filter on. When I rotated the motor, it moved the whole rubber seal around too, which goes to show that the plastic piece wasn't pressing hard enough on the...
Honestly besides the priming function and the fact that it has 2 inlets and 1 outlet, they're quite solid as filters. Mega power even fully load with media. If you were to get one, DON'T use the primer. I would suggest you check the head regularly if water's been getting into it. I've seen some...
I think my Fluval 405's priming button failed after a year or so. Also had to use their intake tube as it has a one-way floaty ball type valve in it, so can't be used with skimmers or lily pipes. I think you also use reactors and a chiller, I always find that priming the filter when its empty...
My first ever canister filter is a Fluval 103, followed by Eheim 2215. At that time I seriously thought priming was a b!tch and usually filled up my canister full of water instead of trying to prime them empty like the instructions provided. Especially when I had a reactor and a chiller inline...
Looks like I can't drill out the screws. Ollie was right, the drill runs without a drill press since the plastic holes are a lot softer. So I'm thinking of hotgluing the plastic pieces together. Hopefully it can keep the seal watertight. I'll be using a lot of Vaseline on the seals.
My other...
That's a problem. I don't have a drill press. I'll try to use a pair of needle nose pliers to wind them out. It'll be hard because the screws are self-threading. Gonna use lots of WD40
So about a year and a half later, one of the 2080s that I have is now leaking badly. About a minute after being turned on, it will start flooding the floor. Set it aside for a month or so out of anger disappointment and went back to it today. I took the head apart and found this...
Looks like...
I saw these filters 6-8 months in a local LFS here in Malaysia. Didn't quite understand it so didn't try it. As it is I already have 6 filters (3 unused) for 2 tanks at home
Eheim quick release double taps :) It makes priming easier because you can keep some water in the tubing while you clean the canister. Then later open up the outlet taps first, then the inlet taps and water should start flooding in. The Pro's taps open them all at the same time which doesn't work.
The method I use is the one stated in the manual for priming Eheim classic filters, which is almost the same as described by John. If the hoses already have water in them, then opening the taps will cause water to flood in through the intakes and air to escape through the outlet. If you have a...
Sanj, it seems like there was a bad batch of them. I've been reading reports all over the internet about Pro 3 filters leaking. The Pro 2 with a center priming button also leaked water into the head from the priming mechanism. If it works then it works well, if it doesn't work then it will never...
Some pics would be useful! One of my 2080s was fixed by applying petroleum jelly generously on the primer rubber seals. The other had its intake/output cartridge replaced in order to stop the leaking. These leaks are during operation, still need to resolve the problem of leaking when the power...
Seals are fine. The filter doesn't leak during normal operation. Its the usual problem of water getting into the head, previously it was theorised through the primer mechanism.
Caution, I'm ranting. I bought two second hand 2080s some months ago. Both of them immediately leaked, the known issue of water seeping into the head. Local distributor in Malaysia would not honor 3 year warranty and I had to pay to get one of them fixed, the other was salvagable by generously...
I have 2 and they are pretty quiet. Can't hear them outside the cabinet at all. But I live in the tropics so there are distracting noises like the ceiling fan and tank cooling fans.
BenC, I just had a problem with the flow of one of my Pro 3s. Tried all sorts like pinching one intake and...
What the devil! I just experienced the exact problem on a 2080 I set up last night. Squeezed the intake that didn't have air in it which caused more suction on the problematic side.
That is possible with the 2073 which has 2 intakes. If one is still filled with air it would just suck from the one without air, therefore hiding the problem.
Talking about low flow but with excellent results and no algae, have a look at the Tropica layouts no 78-82. Only Juwel Rio 180 internal filtration!

I wonder if its worth creating laminar flow in a filter. For example to put small straws inside the filter tubing to create highly directional molecules? Off topic just Darrel piqued my interest as usual.
You can try checking if the impeller's magnet is chipped in any way. See below for my chipped impeller some time ago. A really small chip no matter how insignificant can alter the magnetic field and cause vibrations. I chipped mine probably while cleaning it.
From what I understand, it does sounds like your Koralia is interfering with the flow of the 2 spraybars. I had a similar setup once and from experience, the best way is to use inline reactors/diffusers connected to both filters, one each for a total of two inlines. That way both halves of the...
All you need to do is to make sure the inlet of the canister is outside the tank and and lower than the bottom of the tank. Release the taps and it should backflush using suction from the canister outlet in the tank.
I think he means 432lph out of 1700lph of the Pro3e. Don't forget to check if the Pro3e is set to "wavemaker" mode. My friend has a Pro3e and his otos actually get stuck to the inlet due to its pulling power.
Inline resistors only work with DC current. I'm wondering if a rheostat will work for you. The kind that controls a ceiling fan's speed?
Probably best not to mess around and sell off that Koralia on eBay and get a smaller one
Twice a day mostly!
I also rinse my filter media once a month, or whenever it gets extra clogged due to me messing with the tank. I use a mixture of generic ceramic rings and JBL MicroMec. Once the media gets too brown, I'll soak them in bleach for a day and it'll clean right up. My...
Check the impeller for chips in the magnet. I've had 2 Eheim Classic 2215 impellers which had chipped magnets, causing rattling and humming.
This is the first one which resulted in rattling. Pretty big chips.
This is the second one. Very tiny chips from the edges of the magnet. Didn't rattle...
21 hours without water flow (and O2 supply) may have killed the bacterial colony. Don't worry, building it up again is not that difficult, especially when the water in your tank isn't new. Glad to have helped!
Usually what I do when it fails to prime automatically is to use a powerhead connected to the inlet tubing and fill the entire system with water. Did you by any chance checked if the ball valves are completely open? I have a Tetra EX90 (basically the EX700 before they changed their naming...
Hi Garuf, it really depends on how your outlets are placed. When I placed my spraybars at the back of the tank side by side firing towards the front glass, it did make a difference. When I did that with only one reactor, I could visibly see BBA only on the half of the tank without a reactor.
Re: ?Running a Second External Canister Filter Inseries/Inli
I was thinking the exact same thing. If increasing flow is not the requirement here, then going with that pre-filter is a better idea I think.
I've had a load of snails in my canisters before. I don't know if they're actually filtering the water, but I hate those darned snails and throw them out every time. They multiply in the hundreds!
