    If you went back 15-20 years the majority of high tech planted tanks were lit by 2 x T5s the length of the tank. Some folk who had spot on CO2 were using 4 T5s There were many fantastic and successful tanks around then ... as there are now!

    My own 45 gallon tank uses about 2kg every 10-12 weeks. Standard fire extinguishers are 2kg but you can get 5kg versions or 7.5kg pub cylinders are available.     If you are really keen to use them, then as I say you could treat them with polyurethane varnish, something like G4 would see them last for years although it will darken the wood. If you are really really keen the coat them with West Systems Epoxy & they should last for 20 years.

    Depends on how adventuress your want to be? Anubis & HC is OK but maybe not the easiest mix unless you can keep the Anubis shaded. You could drill some holes in your wood & plant some Cryptocorynes.
