    The only thing I have ever found to remove GSA is a nerite. So I would recommend one. When you see it, keep placing it in a spot with GSA. You will be glad you did.

    Don't dump the wood. That looks like soft algae. Get some ramshorn snails and MTS to eat the algae for you.

    The best biological control is definitely ramshorn snails which eat BBA and breed in your tank to numbers which control the algae.

    depends if the algae is on equipment/decorations or plant leaves. If the latter the plants can suffer. Also, some nasty algaes like spirogyra tend to keep growing and growing, dominating the layout and leaving little room for else. So ya, depends on the type of algae and where it's located in...

    It's def not BGA. But I am not sure that is BBA. It doesnt seem to have the 'tufty-ness' of BBA. Can you take a closer picture of the algae?
