Thanks for the replies.
DavidW: do you mean using two sets of inlets/outlets? I'm afraid the tank is too small for that. Or do you mean using some kind of splitter to combine the flow of the two filters.
Vador: I think I would have the same problem with that filter I'm afraid. I believe they...
Hi All,
Got a rather specific requirement. Because of space/aesthetic limitations I need a filter to run a 30cm cube that a) has to sit underneath the tank and b) has to sit on a shelf 27cm high with a bunch of books in front of it too (see below).

[Know your pain - Glad it's sorted!
Murray :)
Thanks
Cheers fella. Wife and kid away visiting the in laws hence the rescape. Therefore likely to be back on only for the next couple of weeks ;)
Phew
Also, the flow on this thing is phenomenal. I know it's clean (and there's nothing in the chemical filtration unit) but still. It's rated as a tiny bit faster than my eheim but appears to be running significantly faster than my eheim and Koralia 900 together. I've had to turn the latter...
Well, it would have to happen during a major rescape, wouldn't it. So tank full of crap after stirring up the substrate. Doing lots of big water changes and running a koralia with an air stone underneath it.
Happily I still have a fluval g6 I bought off George Farmer a couple of years ago but...
Best of luck with that. The boyu is the cheap Chinese knock off I had. Ran fine for a week then kept getting trapped air in the intake and choking up. Tried everything but couldn't fix it. Hope yours runs better.

I use eden 501s (using 2 at the moment) . These are available from aqua essentials as well as the larger models. Brilliant filter but you do have to run them at the same level as the tank else the flow drops dramatically.
About to put one up for sale as it goes with lily pipes etc. Stripping...
Mesh got clogged up fast. Am currently using a sponge made for the intake on those edge tanks. Too big but chopped it in half and secured with zip ties.
Anyone know of a source for 9mm lily pipe cap please do let me know.

When I was after the 100 I had to buy in from HK via ebay. ADC told me they aren't sold in the UK anymore. Shame, great little filters.

Lads, I had a HOB. An aqua one 100 or whatever they're called. Great filter, totally flattened my hairgrass. Been looking for a HOB with a spraybar attachment but only ones available (off ebay) are way over powered for a 12l. May give the Boyu a try anyway.
Nah, had a HOB Ryan. Keeps flattening my hairgrass. This is what I'm using at the mo but as you can see a bit oversized for the tank you gave me.

That's a bit worrying, especially as it's for a tank on my office desk. Leakage during the night whilst surrounded by computers etc would not do my career prospects much good.
Sorry for the necromancy. Gill - is the boyu adjustable? Bought an Eden 501 for my 12l and found it too strong even when I added taps.

Yeah, I think it's actually the same one. Seen it sold under a third brand name and looks identical.
Thanks, Eheim is interesting. Have seen these online before and discounted them 'cos I assumed they were rather big but actually look really small. Will want to see one in the flesh though.
Anyone come across one of these? This is the only one I've found but way over the top for my 12l. Need something smaller.

Got mine (also off ebay) connected to the garden hose tap. Unfortunately, I found out from my last water bill that I am on a meter  :jawdrop
Apparently there's a hosepipe ban in the SE coming soon?
Yeah. If you disconnect the tap unit from the filter then make sure inlet/outlet are out of the tank you can then switch the tap to on position. Ball valves which are white should not be blocking.
The tap on my filter head was a bit sticky from day one. One night I got home and found the flow...
Is the flow lever a bit stiff? Might be the ball valves - my 2071 lost almost all flow recently and that was the cause.

Thanks all. Because of your advice I kept casualties to a minimum. 1 crs and hisonotus which were already dead when I got home and then only 1 breviata over night.
Tried to get the lever unit out with a screwdriver but would not budge. Much respect to ADC, they gave me a new filter head. Going to get it up and running now. Rudedogg, where did you get the spray?
Thanks for the advice all - has been followed. Am aiming to get a new filter this morning. Minded to avoid another eheim but I expect I'll have to make do with a direct replacement from the LFS I got it from.
Whoops. Tried wiggling it to see if I get it further off and have only succeeded in snapping the lever.
Am going to have to buy a new one first thing in the morning. Will the fauna and bacteria be ok until then? If not, anything I can do as a temporary setup? I don't have a spare filter. Only...
Nah mate. Feels like there is but it's just the lever bending. Totally jammed in the off position. I could try to force it but am pretty certain I'll snap the lever.
Sorry for the drama all but I have a serious problem. Came home tonight to find the flow from my external (Eheim pro3 2071) down to a trickle, CRS lying on their back and a dead hisonotus. I'm assuming the casualties are from no surface movement but not sure.
Opened it up, cleaned impellor etc...
Clive, I think what people were saying to me was that if the filter went then you'd have a useless heater in there. Not that convincing an argument perhaps but there you go.
Nice tank.
I thought about this myself a while ago. Whilst there is a very expensive eheim with a built in heater the overwhelming advice i got was to get separates because of the risk of one part of the filter going rendering the rest useless. This might be of use...
You could try this (apologies for the missing pics, don't know what imageshack rule I've violated):

Works very well. Have subsequently replaced the net on my filter inlet with the mesh suggested on that thread but it worked. Not a...
Hi All, I am about to set up a new nano and am currently running the filter for it in my mature tank (first link in my sig). Stupid question - should I be running the new filter on a slow flow rate to maximise the amount of contact time the sponge has with mature tank water? Or should I be...
Have one in my main tank and it does tend to clog up pretty fast. Have to give it a little rub with filter on every few days to break down larger stuff.
Have been thinking about the same thing as I was planning on glass pipes on a tank I'm about to set up. Was thinking about sticking one of these

on the bottom of the inlet. Kind of...
You probably would. I have the 2071 with a few cm clearance and I can get the taps off with a bit of fiddling.
Can't get the trays out though. Only way to do that is to take the unit out of my cabinet by tipping it backwards or sideways. Unfortunately this causes it too leak even with the head...
