I have tested this kind of thing and I agree that the mat in contact with the glass will heat transfer much better. As easerthegeezer suggested it might be preferable to just have the connection and the rear 1" or so of mat extending from the the back. YOu certainly need to avoid a pressure...
Re: Tom's Bucket O' Mud - All change!
That looks great Tom! The underwater planting is superb.
What is that big plant growing out of the water? Is it a Spathiphyllum?
Re: Tom's Bucket O' Mud - All change!
That is wonderful Tom. I agree with Alastair that is amazing visual depth in there. It looks more like the view into a pond than a fish tank.
What are those rasbora-like fish with the orange heads?
Re: My First Planted Tank "Never Ending Journal" Juwel Rio 1
This looks wonderful. I really like that open swimming area for the rainbows over there on the right.

Here's the link to that thread.

These fish were Buenos Aires tetras (Hyphessobrycon anisitsi).
Re: Saintly's 'savannah dreaming' @ 9 weeks
These fish are lovely. There was a thread on planetcatfish.com where someone had put together a really huge biotope setup for some-or-another large L-numper plec and they included a large shoal of these or a similar tetra species. The effect was...
Re: Saintly's 'savannah dreaming' @ 2 months
Great video again Mark--what a perfectly clean tank! It looks like you did not have more than a couple of brown ales before getting that wobbly video.
Re: Saintly's 'savannah dreaming'
This setup is looking great Mark!
You sure can handle a camera well. Who would have imagined a tractor rut looking so beautiful?
Re: Saintly's 'savannah dreaming'
Wow Mark this tank has developed so quickly and it looks wonderful. I like that wallpaper too.
I really wan to set up a proper nano someday--that's another item on my long "to do" list.
Re: Saintly's 'savannah dreaming'
Bolbitis is a cool plant for sure.
It makes a nice riparium subject for a roomy tank. The emersed-form leaves grow quite large and develop a shape distinct from that of the underwater leaves.
That's a shame to hear that you are tearing it down--this was a fun project to watch--but I'm certain you'll put together an exceptional new layout in that nice big tank.
Re: Saintly's 120cm private scape
I hadn't seen that picture that Dan Crawford linked above. What amazing texture in this setup. It looks to me like a scene you would see at your feet in an alpine meadow.
Are those elegantly refined hot pink and orange clothes pins permanent fixtures for the...
Re: Saintly's 120cm private scape
Nice work on those macros Mark. That was a smart idea to think of that--a whole new way to appreciate aquarium plants.
Re: Saintly's 120cm private scape
That's a cool photo-edit Mark, and I think it will be a compelling scape. That is great contrast there between the barren foreground and vibrant background foliage. Do you think that you will leave the foreground unplanted?
Re: Saintly's 120cm private scape
Nice tank, and nice wallpaper. Perhaps your aunty and/or uncle works in a botany-related field, because the house has a botanical theme.
