    Deep tank rescape?

My current scape has had a shelf in it all along. (Not a recent picture, and tank only half filled.) I liked the challenge of building it, it allowed me to raise some of the plants nearer to the surface for more light, and I rationalised that the space underneath would be a sanctuary for shy...

    Hardscape

Assuming you got the rocks from your LFS, I wouldn't loose sleep. If you picked them out of your garden / from a river bank it might be worth a little more caution.

    Creating a 'Natural' Cave

Make sure you use aquarium safe silicon. The normal bathroom stuff has things like fungicide in them which you don't really want in an aquarium. I think someone recently posted a link to a cheap online supplier - about £3 or £4 for a cartridge, which is much cheaper than LFSs. But I can't find...

    Creating a 'Natural' Cave

I can't tell you exactly how natural it's going to look for a while yet, but this is my work-in-progress cave. http://ukaps.org/forum/viewtopic.php?f=35&t=15588

    Mesh for slope scaping

As usual I'm trying to think latterally and come up with an alternative mesh for supporting a slope. I've seen a few mentions of Bonsai mesh, but I've only seen it for sale in small pieces. And ideally I'd like some way to have some of my substrate (Adakama) visible on top. Any suggestions?

    Is this enough plants?

Thanks for the suggestion and the link Garuf. (At somehing like 20 pages it took a while to wade through it.) A couple of questions I couldn't find the answers to: Seeing as I'm going low tech (and at this stage I'm stuck with relatively low light), it sounds like starting the tank emerged is a...

    Is this enough plants?

Thanks Garuf. I've been trying to get some sense of how far a pot goes to no avail so that's a big help. Thanks (if not for the hit to my wallet ;)) I picked the gigantica as the tank is 70cm tall and everywhere seems to sell it as 50-100cm high (not 3m) and I want it to get to the top of the...

    Is this enough plants?

Does this make sense when it comes to quantity of plants? The tank is 110cm wide, 70cm high, and 35cm front to back, with two large pieces of bogwood giving a sort of U-shape when looking at the front. It's going to be low tech (in the short term at least) and I think I've picked suitable plants...

    Wood - what's the difference?

I've been looking online for large pieces of wood for my tank. I was looking for "bogwood", but which has turned up results for Mopani and Sumatran Driftwood and Cornish Oak as well. I've also seen comments like "[Mopani]...only occurs in Africa" and "Genuine Bogwood, not cheap inferior mopani...

    Caves and cleaning.

I want to have a large cave at one end of my 275L tank. The idea is to provide somewhere for semi nocturnal fish to hide, but have the glass of the tank provide the main walls of the cave, so the fish can hide, but still be seen. (It makes sense in my head  ) The plan is to use a roofing...

    How steep can you go?

Not heard of Bonsai mesh but it sounds like a good idea to me. In the full size world of hard lanscaping, like embankments at the side of motorways, the main structure is made by filling gabions (wire cages) with rocks, cover those with a relatively thick layer of soil, put mesh over that, which...

    Large fake rocks

Thanks Mark I should have said there are 2 exceptions, Unipac being the other. Since Aquaessentials are almost the only company that lists them, and they list them (certainly the Okiishi) as out of stock I wondered if they were no longer available. And another website suggested they're...

    Large fake rocks

Are there any companies that make decent sized fake rocks? (I'm after something 12"-18" long.) Everything I've found is either tiny, or looks cheap and tacky, or really expensive. The one exception is Universal Rocks in Australia, and I can't find a UK supplier.
