    200L Low-Tech Reboot

Picked up a SAE for the tank. It is extremely small right now so very hard to find in the tank. Not much change other than the newer Anubias seem to be yellowing. Some of the leaves have holes, and generally they are just declining.

    Adam's (Tony's old) 5ft Monster tank

The red rainbows are the fish I miss the most. Sadly my tank isn't close to being big enough. They will look great in your tank when matured (part of the reason I liked them the most)

    200L Low-Tech Reboot

Thanks, I was trying to find a suitable alternative but couldn't anything of interest. So ended up ordering some vallis yesterday.

Lol, I hope I didn't get your hopes up too high. Thanks for alerting me to this, I'm sure they used to auto publish as public.

    200L Low-Tech Reboot

Here is a quick video. Don't understand why it seems so much worse than previous videos taken. Should be good enough to get an idea for the general scape though: See the algae problems on the right side which is the older anubias. PS, funny to compare the anubias growth on the woods on...

Learning from Mistakes (125L dirted co2 tank)

Really like the rescape. The addition of more height really makes a difference. Also great quality photos.

    200L Low-Tech Reboot

I actually planted some Cryptocoryne balansae when I replanted the first time. I had totally forgotten about it as it was hidden behind a ball of java moss. In the time which it has been in the tank I don't think i has grown a cm. It looks exactly the same as the day I put it in. Roughly...

    200L Low-Tech Reboot

So the reboot has had a bit of a reboot. The java fern has pretty much died somehow. I took some of the remaining healthy parts to add to the tank. The java moss was also a bit of a disaster and ended up being a big ball. Instead I went ahead and bought near enough every type of anubias on...

    200L Low-Tech Reboot

I agree, I had been planning on adding Vallis to the back. I still need a mid/background to fill out the right side, can think of what. Either that or a more vertical spanning wood/hardspace for the right side. I'm not much of a fan of swords, possibly some larger crypts?

    200L Low-Tech Reboot

Okay, looking for some advice, obviously right side is completely rubbish and the odd stones are silly looking. Back left is a lot of java fern on slate. To the right of that is anubias heterophylla. Wood has anubias nana bonsai on far left and a lot of anubias nana on rest and some java...

    200L Low-Tech Reboot

I added a little blue plastic mesh and slate and covered with some java moss. Tank is looking really muddled right now but hopefully when it fills in that will improve. Still going to need some more plants though. Will take a picture when I can (don't have a camera, or at least I can't find one).

    200L Low-Tech Reboot

Are there any plants suitable for a carpet in low tech? I would like to cover up the rocks the anubias are attached to (and the roots) so was thinking either java moss or some other plant... Really I need a lot more foreground plants (I didn't order any).

    200L Low-Tech Reboot

I just kept them in their pots and put them a little into the substrate so they should stay where they are. Should really have spent more time arranging everything but everything else has been attached to wood/rock or planted. Was a bit trigger happy on the glue, will try to tidy things up...

    200L Low-Tech Reboot

Ok, what is the best thing to do while I wait to source some wood or rock?
  15. mikka23

    200L Low-Tech Reboot

Well the small rocks I do have I want to use for other plants. Also I have a rather substantial amount of java fern (I want it to be the main plant). I'm also using a soil substrate this time so I assume it would be beneficial if the roots went down to the soil (rhizome still above)

    200L Low-Tech Reboot

Okay so I removed the old gravel and laid the new mix. I also added the few plants which actually go in the substrate (clearly need to buy more). I need to clean the wood (a lot of algae) and add my moss, ferns and anubias. My Question - I would like to have the java ferns placed behind the...

    200L Low-Tech Reboot

Received some plants today. Is it okay to just leave them in a bucket of water until I am ready to plant tomorrow? Filter was leaking overnight somehow. Woke up to find the carpet soaked in the livingroom. Took the lid off and put it back on, don't see any obvious leak so hopefully that is...

    200L Low-Tech Reboot

Cut the filter outlets a little (need to cut some more) and replaced the UV bulb and some of the media. Going to order from aquaessentials tomorrow. I also need to move something to give the tank some shade, direct sunlight is clearly a big issue right now. Flow seems worse if anything, maybe...

    200L Low-Tech Reboot

I'm not too bothered about crystal clear water. Right now I have sponges>bioballs>ceramic rings. Picked up top soil and a container today. Sadly will be away from next Thursday so best to delay ordering the rest until I'm back.

    200L Low-Tech Reboot

A few additional questions: 1. Is it worth replacing the uv lamp in my filter? 2. Where is the best place to position my overhead? 3. Is it best to keep my anubias in one piece, spread across the wood - or to break it up? Right now its pretty big but its tricky to get some parts to attach to...

    200L Low-Tech Reboot

Bought some new reflectors from iQuatics which seem to fit, so problem 1 is solved. Managed to remove the tap aerator and fix a hozelock connector so that is also solved. Just need to pick up top soil and a big plastic container (temporarily keep fish in) from homebase, then I can order from...

    200L Low-Tech Reboot

Thanks for the advice. I'll make sure my bathroom tap is fixed before I make the change. That way the water changes will be incredibly easy. I was going to go for blast grit but seeing as I will need less I can opt for a more expensive top layer gravel/sand. Tank is not open top. Looking at...

    200L Low-Tech Reboot

Yes that sounds like the best option for me, however, the tutorial mentions a mineralization period before adding fish. Problem being I already have a few fish left over from my previous set-up. Would the fact my filter is already cycled mean I could cope with the early releases from the soil?

    200L Low-Tech Reboot

The plants were a standard mix from last-trading-post or something on ebay + the aponogeton. I fancy a different, more interesting set-up this time with hopefully less maintenance and more longevity.

    200L Low-Tech Reboot

Cheers, any specific recommendations (was planning on ordering from aquaessentials probably)? I found stem plants rather irritating before, they seemed to come loose a lot and swords never grew very well. Crypts are good suggestion. PS. Any anubias suitable as a background plant?

    200L Low-Tech Reboot

So my previous set-ups always suffered from BBA and other algae problems. I'm looking to do a complete restart on my tank (previous set up): Tank - 200L Fluval Roma Light - 2 T8s, each 30w Filter - 1400 L/H All Pond Solutions Powerhead - 1600 L/H Koralia I'm pretty damn poor until I graduate...
