I would say they can vary in colour. I have had amanos in my tank for over 4 years and there are some that are blue and some that are deeper brown with specs etc. The younger generation of amanos for me are quite clear and small though compared to the older generation.

That is quite sad Luis. I bought 40 amanos for my 350 and did what you did and not 1 death. Having said that it is a low tech tank with plenty of hiding places and food. You will notice a dead shrimp as the tank doesnt have a colour backing so I can see all around it. Maybe just bad luck pal?

Soil does make a difference. I met some breeders in singapore earlier in the year and many of them swear by changing the substrate to shrimp friendly stuff every year. But softer water and less gh etc is a must.

That is very weird then. No reason why they wouldnt breed. Possibly having so many might be the downfall. I had 6 sakura in a 60l tank and as I said I had over 100 at one point. Perhaps swop or sell the ones you have to thin out the colony to 10 and see what happens?

Try the lettuce thing. or a suken courgette. Its easy to take out and shrimps will move out of the way.

Quite possibly you might be gassing them to death?? But generally cherry shrimps are quite hardy. Sounds like it could be the moulting stage thats causing them problems. You also mentioned a heavily planted tank so it rules out that they are getting stressed from the other fishes interupting...

As long as there are places for the cherrys to hide in should be fine. Plenty of moss is always good, but if the cherrys have babies you might be faced with a struggle in keeping them alive as they are so small other fish might see it as food :( Why not add some Amanos?
