Critique my hardscape Feedback on hardscape

I think it looks nice and once planted and aged with algae on the rocks will be great. What plants are you planning to put in there? For myself I would love to look for some really intricate pieces of fine twisted mini branches to create something additional so the eye is drawn everywhere...

    Why?

To learn as I go along for its experiences. I'm getting back to scaping up my tanks and returned back to UKAPS for inspiration and advice :)

Critique my hardscape Is it too much?

Have you thought about replacing the outlets and use spray bars? Or perhaps a powerhead at the back to create more flow around the tank? Plant wise for the front or at least simpler carpeting I have always had success with parva as a middle transition and then Sagitaria/Lilaeopsis with no co2...

Critique my hardscape Is it too much?

As above. Test parameters after a week once the tank has settled. Also worth stirring or using a chopstick to move the substrate to remove any air pockets. I would add another small filter inside the tank and have some wool as filter media. This will polish the water somewhat and make it clearer...

Critique my hardscape Is it too much?

I think with time the dragon stone will change colour. A suggestion is to use some smaller pieces of rock or debris below the large piece of wood to aid a transition. As I find the different colours from rock vs the dragon stone too much of a contrast. Fill up the tank and then everyone can...

What do you think of this aquascape?

Seeing the pic doesnt show the scale very well hence I thought be nice to be on a big scale. The one in LW is around the same I think. But as I stated before isnt planted, but it does have a creeping plant which actually grows instead and spread its roots and all around the shop from the...

What do you think of this aquascape?

Im thinking you are thinking this, but on a larger scale? In living waters there is a tank which has the same feel, but it isnt high tech or planted to the same aspect. However you get an idea on the scale of it and putting the picture shown I can imagine it will be quite stunning. What kind...

How do you stop tannins discolouring water?

I just let the tannins leak into the water. I do like the colour of the tannis, but then again I do a water change every few days as I keep dicus fish. But for my smaller tanks Ive boiled the wood for a few hours and then soaked in water overnight before adding into my other tanks.

    Fallen Branches

Been to my Directors house over the weekend in Surrey and hes got lots of trees on his estate. Hes having a trim on the trees later in the month and I was wondering if I can use some of the fallen branches for my scape? I think the tree is a chestnut tree (Conkers tpye), Can I use this?

    Black Sand

I coudlnt agree more. Its such a satisfying feeling just watching the hard work come on every day/week/month. Although I wouldnt say I have been in the tropical fishkeeping hobby for long I dont know why I never ventured into this earlier :D Ive been keeping koi for years and got hooked after...

    Black Sand

£48 isnt too bad, but to make a decent 2.5-3cm covering I would need at least 3 bags. Also forgot I shouldnt have cut my background to size :( Now I need another one ... hehe.. This fishkeeping hobby is expensive :(

    Black Sand

So http://www.aquaessentials.co.uk/index.p ... ts_id=1737 - £26.99 each (7kg each) so I will need 3 bags for 120l limpopo black - £15.99 per bag - 12.5kg per bag. I will need minimum 2 bags, but possibly 3 bags will at 37.5kg Either way I am looking at spending at least £75 to fill my...

    Black Sand

I am interested in changing from black gravel to black sand. However wanted the users opinion on which is the better ones to look out for? Its for a 125l tank and wasnt sure if it was worth reusing the black gravel and mixing it with sand but think it would look a bit weird. Anyways bottom...
