I tend to use vinegar or lemon juice. This helps remove limescale or at least makes it easier to clean with a razor blade. But as others have said over time you will get bacteria/parasites back over time.

Yes was a typo. In the pots that the plants normally come in or normally I have spare. I simply repot with some padding and as tim said simply lift the pot a few inches up and then cut the roots. However in the near future small plantlets may pop back but thats a bonus :)

I would put crypts in pits if you were planning to plant on different levels. Makes moving things alot easier and you can simply snip the roots. This is what I have been doing recently.

Does the "fats" produced when you move your finger the film do any harm to the fishes? Reason I asked is I would blow at the floating plants if they were to get caught up in the corners and when doing so a lovely while substance from the film falls into the tank.
