    2 x Tetratec EX1200 or JBL e1501?

Good choice. I have 2 jbl e1500 and they are great filters. Running 2 means you only need to do a alternative filter clean every 2-3 month.

Help! JBL 1501 filter really really noisy

Its the air in the filter, give it a few restarts or slightly shake it. It will eventually dissapate. Takes a few goes and it will be sorted.

    Filter cleaning

Filter maintanance is a good thing to do. I have 2 jbl e1500 fitlers and alternate with cleaning the sponges every 6 weeks. This always leaves me with 1 fully working filter at all times. Every 3 months I would strip down the piping and give it a good clean. No matter how much I clean it there...

    TOXIC POISIONING?

Was the filter properly seeded? What about the tank? Cleaned properly? If the hob has a smell then probably something wrong with the sponges. I guess sometimes with purchases its always good to give them a good clean in some taken ot tank water and soaked before adding sponges from other...

Product Review JBL CristalProfi e1500 Review (Picture Heavy)

Haha. its very simple to set up once you put it together. The only small issue you face is that because the tubes are new they wont flex that well compared to an older tube. I found flushing it with some warm water made it more pliable and then simply cut to size. Then you prime it by pressing...

Can/Should you store the filter mulm??

Ive stored mulm for a day or two but did not know I could keep mulm for that long a period. Having no access to branded sands when I first started keeping plants I was told mulm is a good substrate booster and Ive grown many successful tanks the same way. Thanks for the info Darrel. Interesting...

Product Review JBL CristalProfi e1500 Review (Picture Heavy)

Yes I used the rear cut outs and it fit fine. Just cut the tubes to shape to avoid excess. However dont cut them that short in case you need to upgrade tanks like I did. Luckily the tubes are universal size so I replaced them with eheim tubes to match the Rena drop.

Product Review JBL CristalProfi e1500 Review (Picture Heavy)

I had a e1500 in my 180 and it was fine. You might have to negotiate the tube and cables depending where your power socket is but I had no problem with the door. For removals I simply unplugged and took to the sink. I also ran co2.

    Purigen

So using tights will be fine in the filter, but you re generate them each month with bleach and this will make them last super long? Never tried that. I will give this a try sometime.

    Purigen

Thanks Stu. I have it in a bottle with the beads in it. I will get a fine mesh bag from ebay then and follow instructions.
  13. mlgt

    Purigen

Thanks, however do you use mesh filter bags that can be bought from ebay? or branded? Does it make a difference? Thansk for the instructions.
  14. mlgt

    Purigen

May I ask how you use this? I got given 2 bottles of this when I bought a second hand tank. However the man said he has had them for a year or so. I dont suppose that if you dont use it for some time it will not work as well as a brand new bottle? Reason I ask is that both bottles were opened.

    Filter recommendation for 400l tank

I will have a look at the fluval fx5. As another jbl will be around the same price so at least I am familiar with it. I wonder whos comment was it to not get another jbl for the future :P hehe... Another question is, is there a way to link 2 jbl together to flow? eg, have different filter...

    Filter recommendation for 400l tank

Ive just purchased a Rena Aqualife 350. Its 350l and is the older model which has 2 x T8 lights. I plan to install the current 2 x 39W T5's that I have in my current Juwel rio 180 and basically bring all the equipment over to the new tank. The good thing is that the rena doesnt have an internal...

    Water Changes.

I think using dechlor is a sure safe method. Some dont use it at all and simply just do a water change. However it all depends on how much water you are displacing. I tend to do a 50% water change each weekend and usually a small 30% during the week in the past (when my discus fish were growing)...

recommend an external filter for a rio 125?

Ive been using the jbl e1500 for the last year and found it a very solid external filter. lots of extras and priming the canister cannot be easier.

    Pump for waterchanges

I simply reused an old internal filter and attached a hose on the end of it to perform water changes. I think it was a fluval 1 or something. Ive since upgraded to a 400l pumphead and I can do a big water change in my 180l in less than 5 minutes :)

    JBL 1500

Well you see the round button on top of the filter? When it is off. Press down on it a few times and this will prime the filter ready. Then turn it back on. You will find that the tank water has gone down a little because its in the filter. Then after a few minutes turn it off and back on...

eheim 2217 filter media cleaning question

I just used 2-3 filter pads with the ceramic at the bottom. Then a devider type thing and then the filter floss on top. Used it for years before I upgraded to the JBL e1500.

    Which Koralia?

Im in the same boat, but would go for a little bigger as I am intending to upgrade to a 400l tank in the near future so do what you prefer. I think the K2 is fine and price wise theres not much in it. Down to personal preference and requirements thereon after.

    Which filter? New to externals.

JBL e1500 :text-+1: :text-+1: However I noticed that the price has gone up alot since I got mine 3-4 months ago. I paid under £80 for mine :)

Eheim 2224 or Ecco Pro 300?

Go for the JBL range. I got mine online from zooplus. Get the biggest one you can afford as later you might want to upgrade to a bigger filter and this is a very well built filter in my opinion.

    Noisy Eheim Classic

Thats not really assuring to hear that tiping on the side will cause a leak! I guess it could be the o ring thats not creating a proper vacum. My 2217 is a second hand one and Ive used it for 2 years now and no problems with it. If theres no air in it and its leaking then it sounds like a...

    Noisy Eheim Classic

Could be the impeller gone? Sometimes when you do a filter change I fill up with water and tip it upside down a few times to release any air bubbles. But I normally cover the filter with a towel and I can just hear a small humming noise at the most.

    Huey Hung Filters

    Huey Hung Filters

No thats fine. Thats my opinion as well. But I guess it works for the discus fish as long as you do the water changes etc. He also commented that the spray bar was wasting away my plants because of too much surface agitation. I dont usually dose my plants with any ferts, but I will trial...
