I wander how the amazonensis would interact with typical dwarf shrimp. They are something I'd absolutely love to own but I'm struggling for space :(

Wouldn't waste your money. I use an active substrate and that's the only expensive thing that goes in the tank. They get fed on soya bean pellets, dandilions and nettles :)

How are the amazoniensis to keep? What parameters are you keeping? I can get hold of them but they seem like they will be a pita

They look like they could be either Neocaridina palmata or davidi

Im surpised no one has put work into these yet. After having a closer look I can see at least 3 that have red towards the tail. If someone couldpin down half red half black it would be a nice little earner. The shrimps are doing well vic, very pleased with them :) The only issue being that...

Its true that they are less sensative but id never condone exposing them to nitrites if I could avoid it by waiting an extra week or so.

Neripteron snails are a species that fit your bill. Most require brackish water for development of eggs/young and they are very strict on surfaces they live on. The pnly time mine touch the sand is when they move to another hard surface to feed. The only plants they will reat on will be ones...

I do 2l daily water changes at the minute on my 50l. I have Danionella in there but until that point i changed maybe 5l in 3 months. Keep waterchanges to a minimum and do tiny ones. Think of it as replenishing minerals and not removing waste :)

Is your water particularly soft?

I find that anything works well ;) Writing bee shrimp on the label adds to the price so use seachem gh booster. Much better value for money.

All the bloody marys I have encountered have a normal rosterum. There was a lot of hype about it being shortened but the trait has not been fixed as far as I know. They go a very nice deep red colour though :) I cant comment on the grading of the shrimp as I see it as a gimmick to make more...

Regular crs will do well from 120-200 imo. Id try and raise your gh a bit. They dont require super soft water as long as the tds is reasonable. A gh that low may hinder moulting. I think 5-8 is the common target gh.

I have added a mix of gh booster and a small ammount of trace to bring this upto 130 now but my gh test is playing up... Less than half a mil in 5 litres of water and the gh is supposedly somewhere above 30 so i need to figure out how to get a better readling as i know this isnt right. Edit...

Started up a small tank using bottled water that is perfect for crs straight from the bottle (gh 4, kh 1-2 tds 90) but i want to run through a few things on the bottle. Could you tell me if the following analasys will pose any problems? Sodium 9 mgl Chloride 12mgl. Thank you for your time :)

Sorry i was refering to the african fan shrimp. They both reach a similar length as stated but the sheer bulk of the african fan's is scary looking :) They are both terratorial species but do not have the capacity to damage each other if you wanted to mix the species together. They will fight it...

It will eventually get massive and then it will come out all the time. To lure him out try putting a perch in front of the filer outlet and he will live on it :) What fish do you have with him

What a lot of shrimp keepers dont realise is tds is a measurement of everythin in the water of which not a lot is usefull to shrimps. What is the tds of your ro water?

Catappa leaves and the 2 medications you have mentioned would be your safest options. Are there any other symptoms? Are the shrimp moulting correctly? Higher temperatures can cause a faster growth rate which would make the problem more obvious as the need for skin shedding increases.

The only large shrimp species that will breed in freshwater are macrobrachium sp's. The large ones (bigger than amano shrimps) will be a danger to any fish or other shrimps. However bamboo shrimps and african fan shrimps are a good choice, they do require a mature tank and heavy flow.

There are blues that breed true, but earlier ones that havnt been 'fixed' may not do.

If you want to get really into the ''eco system'' aproach alltering the temperature has a huge impact on breeding rates ;) Depending what fish you have (thread was tldr :P) you could alter the temperature according to food demand. up to 28'c or so for cherries and they would breed stupendously...

False Cherries are a slectively bred strain of the wild type neocaridina heteropoda, the red colour was picked out by a breeder and worked on until they breed true.

100% disagree. Once shrimps are settled into there environment they will behave as they would without fish presnt if there is no risk of predation. My shrimps often swim midwater in my nano and that is stocked witha range of nano fish. Whats your objection to crs with fish? :) Id say low grade...

You got aa riduculously good price on those shrimps! I payed £11 for cardinals.... If you look at some of the other shrimps on there, they are very wel priced. if you purchased snowball shrimps at £1.50 you would have no trouble moving them on for £3-4 each.

If that was an import list i would have been your best friend :D

Assasin snails have the abilty to make a hole in its preys shell, which is why (in theory) no snails are safe, but more often than not they will ignore anything considerably bigger than themselves.

Hes not a bamboo shrimp. More than likely a ''malayan'' shrimp or caridina cf babaulti sp ''blue'' (which arent blue at all when they are happy).

Troll? If you want to breed shrimps, then id go for an air powered sponge filter. If not, then anything will do as long as you cover the inlet with something fine eenough to stop the hrimps ending up inside it.

If they are planaria then they will be harmless to absolubtly everything. Are they flat (as in, paper flat) or a rounded shape in the body? They look to thick and much to fast to be planaria in my eyes.

I float them in the bag and add a shotglass full of water every 5-15 minutes or so depending on the species. With neocaridina i tend to just dip them a couple of times as i would hardy fish. But for my cardinals i spent a little over 2 hours on them.

Another vouch for coepods :thumbup: I raise them as baby fish food so they are entirely harmless.

The fact it ''jumped off the glass'' makes me think its not planaria. And chance of photos?

Its a failed moult imho. Ive had similar happen before twice that i can recall and nothing can be done about it. If the others are healthy id draw it up and forget about it.

My amanos pick off the odd cherry, but nothing to much. I agree with Ade on ukshrimp for one, most shrimps could in theory take on small shrimps, but its not an issue unless you have about 5 cherries in a tank with 10 amanos as they will outbreed any minor predation. Picture this, a tank full...

Macrobrachium lanchesteri has fairly small claws, and arent the worst predators. I had macrobrachium assamensis, take a look at them for some real claws :D They never predated on any fish, only there own babies.

Ghost, glass or grass shrimp would be my suggestion. I got a few yesterday and they look the same as yours.... Would be nice if mine where macros though :) Should be fine either way with your fish choice as long as they dont have fancy fins.

My first ghost shrimps in a year+ of shrimp keeping :roll: Comical little critters, they like to hide away in there own little space until its dark, or you go near the tank. Might have some for sale at some point

Sound like Caridina cf. babulti 'blue' Amanos dont ever go blue unless they are dyed, its likely to be the above mentioned, or cf. malaya

You should be able to keep them alive in there, and the thing with necaridina species is if you keep em alive, prepare for hundreds more :)

I Dose at 3-4x recomended dose with easy carbo whenever i see any algae striking up without any problems. I used to dose it with a couple of solid white Crystal gold shrimps and a few crystal reds without any problems to. I dont dose regularly though, just if i notice any algae creeping up :shh:

Has anyone noticed anywhere selling some of the newer cBs variations at all? Im torn between the idea of Breeding out the black on CBS to attain something similar to king kong shrimps, or maybe going for it and buying myself some king kong/panda shrimps. I know the latter will be very expensive...

Im hoping to try it out in the future too for the purpose of keeping the Ph down for some nice crs variations. Any clues as to whether it leeches anything to start with or is it ok from the go?

Ive seen this too. I cant see it being unsafe as the site in question feed it to there high grade crs :O Would be great to find out for deffinate though.

I would try and cycle some aqua soil as it does a great job at lowering and keeping ph stable at about neutral to slightly acidic. Your ph is right at the top end for breeding crs so they might be alright without it ;) You can use what filter you like, just wrap some tights or similar over then...

If you get over run take some to your nearest maidenhead :D They should snap them off you for a bit of credit.

I imagine if they could be figured out then tropical ones would become avaliable? There are already filter feeding inverts that can thrive in our aquariums, its just figuring out how we can do it. Looked around and there are reports of some people having them apear in there tanks :jawdrop

Anyone ever read anything about maintaining these? I cant source tropical ones, but I can get cold-water sponges nice and easy. I imagine them being incredibly hard to get right. Reason I'm asking is because of the reliance c. spongicola has on sponges, and the possibility of a surrogate.

They arent at all active and will hide a lot, but they are shrimp friendly. THey are teratorial so there may be a couple of nips here and there but no deaths.

Dwarf puffer can sometimes be mixed with shrimps. I wouldnt adivse it with any other puffers but SOME dwarf puffers are ok with shrimps.

Cant speak for assasin snails but ive twice recieved apple snails in frosty weather with minimal casualties (2 out of 20 wasnt bad)

Heres a few to google ;) Caridina pareparensis parvidentata I say this even though its rare because they could easily be missinterprated as small amano's to the untrained eye. Malawa shrimps..... Can be clear, but most often brown-black-red. Neocaridina sp. "blue" can also be clear-brown...

I would imagine it will be fine. My ancistrus struggle to home in on blood worm let alone a shrimp. They arent well adapted to eating moving things.

Not sure how it came up but giant african fans are anything from £8-£14 normaly, and are a lot easire to care for than crs as long as you can provide heaps of flow.

you can get cherry shrimps that have been bred to be orange :)but ive never seen any in my time of searching
