To add to lain's sugestion macrobrachium assamensis would do extremely well in your water :)
Something a bit different.
Also caridina simoni simoni would thrive without any alterations to your water and are different to what most people keep.
If you aim for a tds of 200 ish you could keep...
Sand capped with aquasoil will become stagnent which may or may not be a bad thing.
If you are going to add a carpet id say it would be fine, otherwise youd be best off syphoning the sand out first.
I rinsed my cat litter (tescos premium) for about half an hour today.
It ran clear after about 10 minutes, but it stil honks of that odour control stuff they throw on it.
Should i just throw it in the tank and see whats what? I cant seem to get rid of the smell
I beg to differ.
I can guarantee if i went and crashed my ph with lemon juice or ph minus my fish would all be affected.
Similarly if i added ph up to a tank of wild discus they would drop dead.
Put a hose in the bottom of a bucket ad pour it in around the hose ;)
Leave it to overflow for a while and hey presto, although your water meter wont aprove.
Hasnt changed my ph, hardness etc at all.
I did cap it but the sand got all dug into the base layer and no problems have arisen from having it exposed so i leave it how it is ;) Looks very natural to me like that.
You cap it off, i have done with sand and 'pink grit' which is like mashed up gravel when you wash the pink rubbish off.
My suposed red plants are actually red now and im noticing more compact growth so its better than sand anyway
8)
that sounds like a good idea.
so its effectively home made root balls then :)
i may also try to replace a bit accross the back with something a little finer :)
thanks
i have a tank with a footprint of 50cmX200cm and i would like to know what substrate i could use for good effect with plants?
it would also need to be smooth and be able to change it with the water in the tank as i cant practically remove 600litres of water to change the substrate lol.
