    ID, likely mimulus

This plant came from my mother's pond. It contains natives and mimulus luteus which self seeds all over the place. Any ideas? Sent from my SM-G900F using Tapatalk

The orange is very obvious emersed but I imagine people complained about the red from tropica. Quite underwhelming Sent from my SM-G900F using Tapatalk

    Cryptocoryne ferruginea

Cool find :) Mine has taken around a year to grow back from a bare rhizome to a bare rhizome with some tiny shoots. Something not to its liking

    Red Crypts

Turns out mine is largely mush at the moment with a few new green shoots :(

    Microsorum pteropus 'Minor'

Is that not 'green gnome' from dennerle looking at the way it's grown?

    rheophytic orchid Borneo

Mazus certainly looks to have potential if it grows well :) Trying to get some of the more obscure stuff now. I feel like I've done buce to death but I like the random mosses and other plants you get in the clumps. Always exciting :D Sent from my SM-G900F using Tapatalk
  9. M

    rheophytic orchid Borneo

It's being called 'cf Beccarii' by a few sources but as you say, very different to Beccarii. Michael Lo has some images of the same plant online going partly submerged so I'm hopeful :) This one was tangled up in an aridarum sp which is the only reason it was collected (accidentally) Sent from...

Still no orchid but I do now own rhaphidophora cf. beccarii :D
  14. M

    rheophytic orchid Borneo

I can do pictures at some point :) Doing a tmc 60 borneo biotope so they will be in that :)
  15. M

    rheophytic orchid Borneo

One of my guys is reluctant to touch it. It's a perfectly legitimate export but a lot of orchids are protected where he is from so he normally leaves well alone. I'll grab an extra for you if anyone comes through. Got some cool ferns coming next week. Hopefully they travel well :)

    rheophytic orchid Borneo

Currently have a few people keeping an eye out for me so hopefully soon I'll have a couple :)

    Anubias and Buce

You would be surprised :) Been keeping bucephalandra a few years now mainly planted in substrate. They don't suffer like anubias would under the same care. In nature they can be found growing on dirt banks and they naturally accumulate a layer of soil in the roots and rhizome structures :) I've...

    Low light stems

I've had monte carlo in the tank before that did well. Very slow as you would imagine but healthy and compact. I can increase light if needs be but I like slow and healthy growth. Easy to manage rather than weekly trims :)
  21. M

    Low light stems

Any recommendations for low light stems? Currently at 0.3 WPG over a 70cm depth. Cabomba and ludwigia repens are doing very well for me. Low tech of course.
  22. M

    Anubias and Buce

I find planted in a rich substrate increases growth above all else. Access to the nutrients in the soil and the water column ;)

    rheophytic orchid Borneo

Borneo :P I will be trying a single one again but they aren't sure how it will travel as it's not the usual thing they send

    rheophytic orchid Borneo

Ive been sent one before but it didn't travel well due to a delay caused by paperwork errors :(

    Aquatic Utricularias

I've had success with other seeds (echinodorus, bucephalandra and eriocaulon) using a thin layer of a muji cotton pad on top of aquasoil. It's sold for vaping which is why I had I but it's great at wicking water and nutrients without getting saturated Might join you with the utricularias soon :)

    Anubias heterophylla

This anubias is one of few that I feel would be much happier out of water. Mine throws out new leaves at just the right pace to keep up with the old leaf death which is seemingly unavoidable for some reason for me. Sent from my SM-G900F using Tapatalk

    Schismatoglottis roseospatha

Was about to jump in and say I can source it but you beat me to it :) If you order it be sure to over order. It doesn't travel so well in my experience so it's best to order a lot in the hope some will survive (assuming this is from an indonesian source). Dennerle have it now but it's not on...

    Anyone tried different microsorum species?

I've just bought a reasonable collection of regular java fern cultivars. It's a shame no one has put much time into trying different sorts out. The supplier I showed is selling them at £5 each so might be worth a punt yet Sent from my SM-G900F using Tapatalk

Echinodorus Reni - healthy, but VERY small.

I have a few that are very small too. Would almost suit a carpet in my tall tank :(

It's likely amblystegium Serpens which I'm sure you can find in your garden ;)
  54. M

    Growing Mosses

I may be wrong but i think scapania undulata is only red under low nutrient conditions, as is common willow moss. If you grow it in preety much pure ro youll end up with red willow moss although youll have to keep swaping 2 lots around to keep it red.

    Native British mosses for aquascaping?

My kind of post :) Best advice is go out and pick what you like the look of (responsiably) And prepare yourself for it to look completely different in a tank :P A lot of mosses growing in very dry environments also adapt extremely well.
  56. M

    A couple of natives

I find mosses in general to be easier than ferns. In my shrimp tank with a very low tds and no ferts the mosses (and 'pellia') are taking over :) My pellia needs retying every 2 weeks With no co2 or ferts. My java fern is surviving but not thriving
  57. M

    A couple of natives

Striny moss seems like a minefield to me. So many have very similar growth patterns submerged and i dont have a microscope :( Nonetheless, ill keep collecting and keep updating :) Thinking of traveling to hope valley for a gander and a day out.
  58. M

    A couple of natives

Also, Amblystegia serpens (id to the best of my knowledge) is what I believe to be 'stringy moss'. Submerged growth is identicle to my eye

Ptychochromis grandidi. Will look nice for a while but will not live long term :(

My plants are dying, and quick (24 hrs.!)

It could be that spraying the liquid co2 has damaged the leaves? Just a suggestion, someone in the know may be able to adivise on this better.

    Low tech carpet plants?

Marsilea would be my choice of low tech carpeting plant. You need the patients of a saint to achieve a carpet but it is very forgiving.
  67. M

    Pruning grass in nano

Why dont you try 'feathering' the moss? As in cutting from the top with a very slight angle on the scisors. It looks much more natural then a straight mow down too :)
  68. M

    What plant is this?

Tropica sell acicularis so id doubt this is what you have. Id say either pavula or palastris are the likely options. If you can get a picture of the emersed growth up it may help identify it :)
  69. M

    Anyone good with mosses etc?

Will post some up tommorrow :) Aparantly im not allowed to put pictures of moss on the internet on our only day off together :p Thanks Darrel. Would a sub £150 microscope be up to the challenge? I know that a more expensive model will be better but i cant spend £1000 on one

    Anyone good with mosses etc?

I have semi identified a couple Scapania sp. Plagomnium (undulatum?) Platyhypnidium riparoides (im suprised this isnt popular in out hobby already as it grows perfectly submerged in nature, i found it in a blackwater stream.) This is the best i could come up with based on apearence and...

    Eleocharis Parvula doesn't create runners?

Mine grows the same as this. If you trim the tall growth off every week you should see runners.
  77. M

    Marsilea problem

If its less than 2-3 weeks old I wouldnt worry :)
  78. M

    Marsilea problem

Could you post a picture? The clover shaped leaves will go brown and die and be replaced by smaller sumersed leaves.
  79. M

    Do I need co2?

Just a quick pointer. You have planted your java fern into your gravel, id recomend tying/ glueing it onto some hardscape (one of your coconut caves?) or wedging it in the holes of that nice wood you have :) otherwise the base of the plant will rot and the rest will die.
  80. M

Carpet plant and Mid-ground plants melting. Kindly advice.

Your fertiliser regime is also lacking in nitrate and phosphate. I know you state that your nitrate reading is 20ppm but take that with a pinch of salt. The test kits we use in the hobby are very inacurate, more of an indicator that it is there than an accurate mesurement.
  81. M

    which Bucephalandra?

I dont think enough of us have the caviar wallets for those :)

I think almost any plant will survive at temperatures you can tolerate.
  89. M

    Native Moss on rocks (UK)

Any coldwater nasties arent likely to survive in tropical temperatures, and if everything in the tank is healthy, any ''pathogens'' wont affect them anyway.
  90. M

    Native Moss on rocks (UK)

Give them a light wash under water as already said. As long as they dont have anything obviously dangerous on them they should be fine. The thing to do with mosses from the uk is just to try it and see what happens, cant do any harm and you might end up with something nice and atractive :D Ive...
