    Bigger fish to force schooling

Have a look on YouTube at wild tetra. You will notice a large number of them are shoaling at all. Schooling is a response to threat, no two ways about it. I'd much rather have different behaviour from a haply fish than forced shoaling through fear. None of my tetra shoal to any degree. My...

    Bigger fish to force schooling

I think it is irresponsible to stress your fish out intentionally. I feel aquascaping sometimes gets in the way if animal welfare.

Am i the only one that doesnt mind planaria? ):

    50 litre cube stocking.

Pygmy puffers get along well with ottos too and some are ok with shrimps so thats the algae taken care of :) How about scarlet badis? Interesting little fish :)

    Otocinclus Cocama

In your seemingly endless love for all things zebra you should add yaoshania pachychilus to your 'being considered' list :) Whisby also have a lonely looking L46 so it would only be fair to up the group to 6 :P

    Otocinclus Cocama

Whisby has 'black ottos' in at the minute. Not as apealing as zebras but still a bit different :)

    Shenzhen stream keeps surprising me

Off topic but can i come and live with you? You are spoilt with all that lovely free hardscape, native plants and tropical fish from your local river :)

    Sparkling gourami

How do sparkling gouramis handle high flow? I know they inhabit slow moving streams in the wild but are they adaptable to higher flow environments? Turnover at the minute is around 800lph (alegedly) in a 120l tank and they are fine but i want to upgrade the filter to a crystalprofi 1501. If i...

    Stocking a 90cm tank

I dont own a camera aside from my phone so my pictures would be smudges lol. They look netter in person than photos imo. They have a general orange hue with a fairly solid coppery line.

    Stocking a 90cm tank

I have a exclamation point rasboras in my hard water and they do great. I also keep daisys ricefish with them and they also do great, daily spawning from both although no fry survive. My tds is circa 500.

Little fish - really teeny tiny, iclke munchkin fellas

Danionella Sp. Would be the ultimate nano fish if you find it! I had them previously but cannot find the, anywhere after years of searching. If anyone can find these for sale i will be eternally greatfull.

    Fish Food Expire Dates

Im currently using 44 year old flake food on my tanks without issues. It was a bulk batch i bought a while ago and ive got over half left.

    Dinner?

More often than not fighters are fine with tiny fish. I kept mine with danionella sp (spelling?) before with no problems.

    my new corys (bronze)

Corries prefer large groups, which is why yours are more active now  A tank full of corries will be much busier than a tank full of shoalers even.

    What 'rule' do you use?

Congrats on the breeding ottos :D My message was meant as a joke. I agree that shoaling fish dont tend to shoal if they have a lot of cover, although i recently stripped all the plants from my cube and my glowlights stil go where they please. Guess they must be quite settled.
  28. M

    What 'rule' do you use?

That seems like an odd rule to me, i like to be able to see my fish

    Best Whitespot Treatment

I would get yourself a heater. Im pretty sure that the tank temperature will drop significantly at night times. A heater serves to keep the temperature steady, something which you will be lacking. assuming you turn your lights off at night times (you should as it can have adverse effects if left...

    Food for Ember Tetra

Mine get daphnia and crushed flake
  31. M

    What 'rule' do you use?

One of my tanks (120l cube) has 18 glowlight tetras and 6 lipstick barbs. Final stocking will be 15-20 lipstick barbs which I think will be fine. I to prefer the look of one midwater species in a tank but i like to see the bottom busy with shrimps aswell :D
  32. M

    What 'rule' do you use?

Just wandering what stocking 'rules' you guys have? :) I personally go by what looks right as long as I can handle the nitrates with water changes. My tanks are fairly overstocked if you use Pfk's calculator but I never have any issues with my fish and they all look good so I cant be doing...

Feeding bristlenose plecs without feeding snails

Try feeding blanched lettuce or courget. That stays relatively intact so can be easily removed. Or consider some biological control.

    corys

Ive found no issues with pepered corries or pygmy corries in planted tanks.

Fish varieties that can be put in a water garden?

Cichlids - Could they eat a blue lobster?

I doubt malawis would predate on any fairly sized lobster..... And if it was a small one he was being incrediably stupid putting it in with them in the first place. Id trust a lobster with my bichirs and ca\sa cichlids, so im fairly confident malawis would be fine....
  39. M

Would these fish be okay in a planted

Black ghost will kill your elephant nose. ANd your sev and parrot will eat plants.
  40. M

    How many glowlights?

Thanks for the input :) I was thinking maybe 5 more or so, but the tank looks fairly full at the minute  I was going to go for penguin tetras as they shoal very tightly but mum said she has had bad experiences with agro amongst groups  Stil might go with a small group of hatchets...
  41. M

    How many glowlights?

How many glowlights you guys think i could have in my 120l? Its 50cmx50cmx60cm(tall) and aproximately 120l..... No hardscape as i fancied a dutch, so i have full usage of space.... There are already about 10 similar sized fish present from a while ago and 2 adult macrobrachium assamensis and...

fish for 2 foot cube (ish)

  43. M

fish for 2 foot cube (ish)

emerald eyes are quite nice :) i know most tetras and rasboras prefer acidic water but most will adapt reasonably well ;) our platinums show spawning behaviors and they are soft water fish.

fish for 2 foot cube (ish)

I should hopefully be getting a tank soon that is 2 foot cube (ish, a little taller than long). into this tank will go my macro breeding group, female honey gourami and platinum tetras. im looking for something cardinal size but cant drop the ph due to the macros needing hard water to breed. ph...

  52. M

    Angels plant safe?

Thanks :D im thinking of going for altums if i can drop the ph (7.6 ) and if not then just a nice veriation of regular hybrid angels (super red's maybe?)
  53. M

    Angels plant safe?

They are tiny at an average of 5-8cm ADULT size  nice for a tall 50 litre i think :D I have found a private seller thanks to a friend of a friend that sells them for about £28 (from euros) foradults.
  54. M

    Angels plant safe?

Is it fine to keep a single oto with no chums?

Why not add some snails (oh no, not the s word lol) to the tank, you could easily keep on top of them in such a small space :)

    Green severum, browsing or eating?

They hate java moss :D although the bga loves it  im thinking, a bunch of cabomba at the front as my sev is lazy, he doesnt look for food, he eats from the same plae, and i its not there, he gives up :D

the most resilient fish in the world

Nice find :D ive very frequently find filamentosus fry in my filter, and cherries in another  worst ive ever had is a ropefish that thought it could fit, but couldnt quite. got into a right mess :(
  59. M

    Green severum, browsing or eating?

My green severum seems to take a liking to any moss i put in, although im not sure if they are plant eaters, or just graze on the surface like they do everything else? any hints on this one?

    Arowana

any arro species should have a tank thats smallest diameter is at least 3' as a minimum, its a meter long fish potentially. people are also bendy, but spending life bending yourself in half when you walk to the shops would get tiresome.
