cheers edvet - have you used a sump yourself before? I get the additional turnover and filter media argument but its not common in the planted world and there must be a reason.

hi martin - will be low tech so no CO2. no experience of sumps thus the reach out to see if people have used the TMC 900 planted as is or have blanked off the overflow successfully.

Is it not picking up gas exchange from the filter media?

Seal with couple of coats of pva glue (mixed with a bit of water to thin) then couple of thin coats of emulsion then final coats of whatever paint you want and water won't get to it. My cabinets are home built and have survived spillages and leaks.

Lindy, just an idea but seal the whole cabinet using pva glue and then take it to a car spray shop. I am sure ady34 re sprayed his na cabinet like this. They will be able to get you a top quality job and I am sure it wouldn't be that expensive........

Guys, was on tmc website this am and noticed that on the signature range they mention other sizes available on request for tanks and stands. Does that mean we can order custom sizes and has anyone done so? I just think the 60cm will be too small and 90 only comes pre drilled.....

La Lancs rick, the plan is a 75*45 deep * 50 optiwhite. Aware of the sealing issue. Have a tub of Mdf sealant somewhere in the garage.

Danny, how easy is it to work with the veneer? Debating a new stand build for a custom optiwhite. Have done a stand before but can't decide whether to try the veneer route, want as clean lines as possible and think veneer will help but concerned that it also has the potential to cock up the most.
