    Cloudy water - yeast?

Thanks again Clive. I cleaned the external filter on Saturday when I discovered the problem. I've since added my little Aquaball to help clear it - I'll pull that out tonight and see what's in it. Bigger water changes planned for the weekend - am waiting for payday to buy a water change pump...

    Cloudy water - yeast?

This is depressing! Tank still looks awful  Did 50% change on Saturday and Monday, and set the CO2 up last night. Tonight it looked worse than ever - I could barely see the plants or fish that aren't right at the front. Changed 50% again tonight. Not sure what else I can do but keep...

    Cloudy water - yeast?

Thank Clive - you confirmed my gut instinct, just need to persuade sceptic b/f! Tank not as cloudy as yesterday but still very murky. Working tonight but will do another big water change tomorrow and get the CO2 going!

    Cloudy water - yeast?

Discovered part of the problem... the pipes on the external filter were kinked - probably from putting it back together in a rush on Saturday. Have done another 50% water change and put the airstone on. Have dosed ferts as usual and some excel as no CO2 on the system at the moment. Still not...

    Cloudy water - yeast?

Was doing general maintenance on Saturday and realised one of my Nutrafin canisters had backfed into the tank. Irritated beyond belief as I finally bit the bullet 2 weeks ago and bought a pressurised system, but it was out of stock so I've been waiting on delivery. So ripped the Nutrafin out...

Need some help choosing CO2 system

Hmmm... no instructions :( I was thinking about getting one of those. Not too impressed to hear that yours was bust, but even worse that it doesn't come with the detailed assembly and instruction manual as promised - I was banking on that cos I haven't got a clue!

    Dropchecker maintenance

Thanks both. I've got the 4dkH solution. Just got a bit worried as the pH dropped but the drop checker hadn't changed colour - made me wonder if it wasn't working. Realised though that the aquarium salt i'd added to treat a poorly fish was probably responsible for the pH change

Lost the instructions for my JBL dropchecker... How often should I be refilling it? Cheers,

Electric Aquarium Aquatic Plant CO2 Generator

LOL! B/f is laughing even harder - I'm not renouned for my common sense  Will start investigating ready for payday :) Will no doubt be back for some handholding when I've got all the bits! Thanks!

Electric Aquarium Aquatic Plant CO2 Generator

Interesting - it didn't quite get the slating I expected! :o I've just started using the nurtrafin system but I should really be running a couple of them in my tank. I'd really like a pressurised system but I'm a bit nervous of it - and they look expensive! Could you recommend one that's...

    CO2 virgin

Thanks both for the advice - I'd read that article at the weekend. Will get a drop checker sorted and post back when I've got a better reading! Thanks again

    CO2 virgin

Thanks Andy! I get it. Will get one ordered and monitor. I can set the CO2 up after I fit the new lights :P

    CO2 virgin

It's very confusing!! I read this article at the weekend which seemed to say that a drop checker is not so different from measuring pH and i've got a digital pH monitor on the tank. That said, I'll get one if you think it's the way foward and get to understand the fluctuations before...

    CO2 virgin

That's right nry, I tested before adding to see what my starting point is. Sam - that drop checker sounds like a useful piece of kit - where do I get one of those?! I'll test again at different points in the day and see how stable the levels are - it's useful to know that stablity is key...

    CO2 virgin

My first big planted tank is coming along quite nicely but my plants are growing quite slowly, so I decided to set up my CO2 today. I ran a Red Sea CO2 test which gave a reading of 24 but have to be honest and say I don't really know if that's good or bad, so I started doing a bit of...
