As others have suggested, aim for at least 10x turnover as far as filtration is concerned but the more the merrier really - no need for over about 20x though, especially in smaller tanks. In bigger tanks it might be more of a problem so obviously use more flow from two or more filters. Also...

Maybe it's just me but I was quite dissapointed with the latest PFK. The only article that remotely interested me was Georges biotope. The last few haven't been as good IMO.

I think the paladrium and set mount/tuype ideas are good ones. Also, how about a competition where you can only use hardscape and maybe even plants found from your local lake/park/wherever - just collected from nature. Or one where you give us an inspirational image and we have to recreate it...

This might sound weird but I think it depends on your cat. Some take an interest and some don't. My tanks all have hoods apart from one which didn't. They are all in my room in the loft and our cats hardly come up here. I think I caught one of them taking an interest once, but they wouldn't go...

I've got a peice of black card stuck to the wall with bluetack. It's probably not ideal for everyone, but it does the job for me. I used to stick backing from Aqua Essentials to the rear of the tank, but by doing it this way you get an extra sense of depth. ;)

I would personally go for an island, because I think the dimensions suit tnat. You couls set it up to be viewed from more than one angle (maybe even all angles) as a challenge! But you could also get a great sense of depth with the right rocks and placement with that two foot depth.

The whole poing of UKAPS is to evolve and further the hobby as a whole, so I can't see it closing any time soon. That would be against it's own beliefs, and plus I doubt most of its members would be happy! On the flip side, understand that every forum has a life span.

I have kept plants just in a bucket of water for a few weeks before without too much hassle. I don't really know the best way to store them, but either way as long as you keep them moist, lit etc they should be fine for just four days.

Our bin men are quite good and take just about anything as long as it's in a bin bag and it isn't too heavy.

I personally would forget the rock and move the wood to just off centre and you'd probably be onto something there. I'm really into Blyxa mounds at the moment, so looking forward to this.

What size was the tank for the £90 quote? To me, £50 seems way too cheap for an opti-white. I would have trouble finding a float glass tank of that size for that price if it wasn't clearseal!

I think you can get arcadia 14/15/18w units from TGM but you'd have to check that yourself. Alternatively, the only other thing I know is to use two 9w arcpods.

You could use a nutritious substrate if you wanted such as ADA Aquasoil or Oliver Knott's Nauresoil, or alternatively go for sand or gravel or something and add capsules to benefit plants rooted in the substrate. An 11w Arcpod would suffice from The Green Machine or Aqua Essentials. You could...

I don't see a problem with it. Just give it a good scrub and wash when it comes out just in case though. The typical wood usually takes a few weeks to fully sink, but it does vary depending on the type of wood/size etc.
