For me provided you tank isnt to big a glass diffuser is the way to go, It kind of comes down to personal preference I like the look of a diffuser in the tank other people prefer not to see them

As far as I can make out the only potential major difference is the price, for what some of the aquatic co2 setups cost you can buy a fe a good regulator and you have a wide choice of diffusers etc In short you get a whole lot more for your money when you go the "diy" route
