cheers luke i think it might be crispus too. i just went to a different part of the river and found a load more caught up on a branch so bought some more back. i dropped it in a tank for the fish to clean all the bugs off :D i want to have a look for more species

thanks again darrel :D ill see if i can grow it. its a strange plant. almost look like its rotting atm. its got that transparent look, i know it isnt though. i am making a small collection of the plants in my river, i find it very interesting.

found this today in the local river again. its really nice :D it has slightly transparent leaves like pelia, and are almost waterproof, again like pelia. with pink stems. i have had a look and think it might be a Potamogeton of some decscription?

cheers ad :thumbup: i never trimmed mine once. should have really, as it got too tall. if you didnt want it to grow in certian areas then i would just cut them off at there runners and pull them out. my runners were all on top of the substrate. i do know what you mean about it going...

i saw this plant in my local river last year which died back in the winter. i thought it was all gone but its started to grow back now. does anyone know what it is? i think its quite attractive little stem plant :D

the first looks like lilaeopsis novae-zelandiae with the emersed leaves. the second could be bacopa monnieri. And i am not sure on the last as alot of echinodorus look the same

no pics sorry. but it was grown in an emersed setup with little light, a few inches of water with no filter, ferts or co2 so i guess it should be pretty easy. mine was floating :thumbup:

i am growing this in an emersed setup, which i also got mine local. i have grown mine in a submerged setup before a while back and it grew very fast. i might try it again actually.

IMO you need more light. i had the same problem a while back. now i have a halide i have no such problems :D

i went for a walk today and picked up a stem which was growing in a pool in the field over the road. it was growing half immersed and half emmersed. its quite a cool looking plant :D can anyone ID it?

that looks a nice plant. there is a plant in a small natural pond in the cow field over the road. its looks very much like emersed rotala rotundifolia. it has red patches on it, and is growing half emersed and half imersed. ill have to grab some and grow it like you have :D

must be something with the ferts, what you dosing mate?

it looks like hygrophilia augustofolia. not sure on the spelling but it something like that :D

i got some moss out of my local river which also had some of these on. or similar. they got pulled up by the shrimp though after they got bigger. they looked like cress to start with with 2 leaves. were yours like that?

amano trims the plantlets off that grow at the ends. people have had problems with it dying when you do though

looks similar to acorus (spelling) which aquafleur have

plant them evenly in the area you have. the more HC you have the closer together. or the smaller the area. plant in all directions it normally grows pretty quick anyway :D

welcome to ukaps :wave: the easy way of planting HC is to split each pot into 4-5 smaller clumps then plant them. you can leave some of the rockwool on them, that way they dont come out of the substrate as easy. for a midground plant i would recommend micranthemum micranthemoides or...

TBH i dont think there is an easy way to control it apart from inserting barriers. but that may be impracticle at this stage. if it could be done, find some clear plastic strips and insert them into the substrate to stop it. if not then you will have to trim the runners off if they are above...

i have just read an article by amano which suggests that hard water prevents a plants uptaking max nutrients. seeing as i have the hardest water area in the uk (very hard) this may be affecting my plant growth. i have never been able to grow stems to look 'lush' they allways look as if they are...

i got some moss out of my garden a while back and put it in a tank. it looked like java when i found it so left it floating and it grew very quick :D

parvula does grow pretty low. you could get tenellus to grow about the same height by trimming, so that could be interesting with the different size leaves

one thing amano does aswell is to plant them at an angle away from you, starting at the back. this way they dont get in your way and also dont uproot as easy :D

i am not too sure about that. you may have to experiment. dosing higher in Fe cant to it any harm though

the red on the second picture is e tenellus. the way to get it red is to keep trimming it right down. the new shoots on mine are pinkish but thats with less than 2wpg so light doesnt have to be extreme with it

i have read that takashi amano trimms all the leaves that get too big off and the plant 'learns' to grow smaller. thats what he does with needle java so i should imagine that it would be the same for bolbitis. cant say for sure this works as i have never tried it :D

IME with this great plant it has not grown over 2in. if you could avoid it i would not trim it for the life span of the scape. of cousre if yours does i would try trimming a small piece and see what it does as i have trimmed acicularis before and it died back and others it has not.

my taiwan moss clung well to the wood and could not get if off. its a very nice looking moss too

i am not 100% sure but i think the lotus grows quite a bit bigger

if it were mw i would leave around 1in gap between. others may be different though :D

in the short future i am hoping to use bolbitis and needle java. I wanted to use it in the way that amano uses ferns. when amano uses them they seem to grow horizontal to the substrate which i like the look of. most of the aquascapes i see ferns in allways grow verticle. does anyone know how...

i would just use fishing line or cotton thread. it will attach its self pretty quick and then you can take it off although by that time you shouldnt be able to see it anyway

maybe its the more intense lighting you have now

good grass plants are e acicularis and e parvula, parvula normally grows to about 2 in max IME and acicularis about 6in although can grow more. the plant in the foreground looks more like HM to me :wink:

i think what most people to is just cut the tops off and replant them

there could be a long list as alot of things would grow well in that light and i should say most carpet plants would grow well too

you will need the trace mix too

welcome to the forum :D i wouldnt bother with soft water TBH as it wont matter in a planted tank. but now you have about 3 watts per gallon thats enough for all plants and if you starts dosing ferts and injecting co2 you should be open to a wide variety of plants which is great :D what did...

supercoley had the idea of supergluing it down which works well with anubias and ferns

i didnt personally think it did it any harm, never heard of it killing riccia anyway

it could be that a fish is nibbling at it or maybe just that it was grown emersed when you got it and its just ajusting, but doesnt sound anything much to worry about. just keep an eye on it though

i got some UG in it was an amazing green colour when i got it but it was in hard water for ages and went a yellow colour. now iv sorted the water out with RO water there it new green leaves coming from the base of the clumps

for some reason my hc isnt pearling and i dont know why. it grows ok not fast but doesnt ever pearl i woundered why??? i am dosing TPN and easycarbo and drop checker is green as should be, the filter is blowing the co2 onto it does anyone know why it doesnt want to pearl?

hi all i feel a bit confused at the minuet as im planning my next tank which will be low growing. my idea was to use mainly grasses and wanted to use blyxa and acicularis but cant think which would grow taller. bylxa infront of acicularis or acicluaris infront of blyxa? i cant make my mind up...

i think these come from stems when they dont have enough nutrients they send roots out to find more. i am not certian about this but i have read it somewhere.

i have never had this but i think it likes high lighting and co2 and ferts so i wouldnt say its an easy plant to grow

i bought some Ammannia Gracilia i thought was a nice looking plant, i bought some off ebay and the person i bought it off i think send a similar one with small leaves i planted it and it grew very slowly but never rooted. i have now left it floating and its grown quick with loads of side shoots...
