    Acrylic aquariums

There is at least one dedicated manufacture and a couple of others that can build acrylic tanks, but it is not their only business.

    Acrylic aquariums

This is an old post, but just my 2pence from somebody who has both, when you go large acrylic is far and away much lighter than glass. Two reasonably strong men could carry my 1,600 litre (empty ofcourse 😂) that would not have been possible if it was made of glass. As far scratches... fine...

    Is my tank in danger?

Yes if you put fish in a bucket you must cover otherwise they will jump towards the light. I have moved tanks a few times, don't worry take your time.

    Is my tank in danger?

I would second that. I always try to align as best possible from the start, I take it that you did not realise it was out of line until after you scaped it, it can happen. If it was a few mm I would not be so concerned, but this is close to an inch. It would be worthwhile to take everything out...

    Hydor ETH 300 - Lasted 27 Days

Looks like you are having a spell of bad luck. I have two 300w Hydor inline heaters running since 2008, I havent seen many reports of issues with them, so hopefully chances are your replacement will be fine.

    Life span of a tank/seals ????

I remember hearing 15years on average, I would certainly think 7 is fine unless the tank has been left outside or exposed to bleach repeatedly.

Anyone got a NA Aquarium and cabinet?

Oh man, I want to upgrade my upstairs 60cm TMC to a 90cm NA... I dont know if I can get away with it, house is turning into an aquarium. Wouldnt white work with pine if they dont have a matching wood colour?

    All Pond Solutions Reviews!

Yes, that was a good balanced review, helps when you have a nice voice too. I think they do reasonable first timer aquariums. I think the aquarium itself is the best thing in the whole set up. Did not like the cabinet.

    Whatever happened to ...

I was interested in using an aquarium heating mat, but I could not find any in this country. I wanted it to heat four breeding tanks instead of buying a heater for each tank. I ended up doing the latter.

The easiest way to do a 40% water change?

I dont think water changes is tedious with a hose. Some people fuss too much with good intention. I use a long 50m hose pump at one end to empty water. After emptied 40-50% I then add dechorinator to the tank, wait 15-20 minutes to circulate a bit then attatch other end to tap and turn on to a...

    Sandstone?

Wont sandstone play havoc with eater chemistry...I mean hardening the water significantly? Hmm maybe actually that would be Limestone. I was just thinking about the Oolitic limestone around Peterborough, which also has quite hard water.

    uv sterlizer

I use them primarily for my rainbows. They only kill what passes through them and then it depends what it is, slower flow is reguired for larger organisms like viruses (if they can even be called that) to allow more contact time. My chief concern is mycobacteria, but this is a sessile bacteria...

    Regulators?

After all these years I feel a bit dumb now. I have old JBL regulars and a couple of TMC ones both have duel gauges with one for working pressure, but I did not know that could be regulated. Or can they? The TMC one has a nut in the same place as on the dupla one, but i dont remember any...

    hypothetical fx5 (now on order)

Yup FX5s are great, i have two and well there is greater probability that one would have had some problem, but no theyve been going strong since 2008. :)

    hypothetical fx5 (now on order)

Hmm very sensible, ive just been rabbiting on about this. I use two MP40s for the same, I do use a FX5 and it has a UV attached, but I do use two other filters primarily for co2 delivery with external reactors like those mentioned, although mine where Aquamas reactors from Deutchland. The...

    Tank Cooling - Summers Here!

I always use aeration at night, all the more important in warm weather. I learned a very hard way that killed my hobby for two years. My house was infamous amongst friends for the 'tank of death'.

Do any of you actually own a Fluval G3 or G6?

I should think so to George, given the price of those things. Apart from price for me they are too small and no 2080/fx5 equivalents. Unless they have made a big brother and I have not noticed?? It would be nice to see a review, but also what we often dont see with reviews is use over longer...

    Joists bearing tank weight

Oh yes, very true I forgot to mention that. I use 18mm marine ply under my tanks, helps distribute the weight.

    Joists bearing tank weight

This is a common worry and it does depend on your house, joist sizes, condition of the wood. You want to place a tank in the stongest area possible. Usually this will be placing the tank along the length of a bearing wall and where it can sit over as many joists as possible. Always a good idea...

    Product Review Nano Heater Review

I personally dont like the look of the Newattino. Mr Coleys tank is nice, but that heater just detracts from the scape and any other equipment. Even if you had black backing, it would still stick out. I have just bought the Aquael, but a 100w model for a 60 litre tank. It is slim line and black...

DIY Project home made lighting stand's hints & tips

    Tank weight upstairs

Place the tank and cabinet on a 18mm plywood base that spans the joists, it will distribute the weight. Personally I would not be too worried about a 125 litre tank, i have had a lot more than that on my first floor. However it is true every house is different.

    edited: any thoughts on the size 36w x 15h x 17d"

Re: any thoughts on the size 36 x 15 x 15" Yes, deeper than taller is often prefered for scaping planted tanks than say taller than deep. It will work work

    Tank temperature

Yup in my 400 litre with 216w T5 lighting. Not that much light, but i beleive these have a lot to do with it. I have a heater cable in there and a 300 w heater. The temp is set to 23c but is often around 26c, declines abit over night. Good thing though heaters have potentially the most...

How long are heater thermostats on on average per day?

I know there a few variables such as ambient temp, aquarium size, temp setting in the aquarium... But does anyone roughly have an idea how long per day a heaterstat would be on. Im just trying to get a feel for energy costs using the PFK calculator and the potential 40% increase in elec prices...

DIY Project Replaced the Juwel Plastic Brace

Mine snapped of my Rio 400 as I was filling it a couple of years ago. The shop i bought it from insisted that it would not be a problem and well I was given replacement braces, but yeah there is a shadow, but could not do what you did because the braces snapped right at the ledge so there was...
