    Extending concrete pond

I am given to understand it's difficult to extend a concrete pond. I would consider building a new pond adjecent to the existing one as an easier option. If you build the new one a bit lower, you could link them with a waterfall. Just another idea for you. :)

I was looking at some Medaka eggs on E-Bay earlier today. :) I've got to decide between fish or just wildlife, but I've got another pond that is just for wildlife, so I could well be ordering some eggs soon. :)

Please excuse the weed patch, - or admire the wildflower meadow. I will be planting some ground cover, maybe Creeping Jenny. Using reclaimed bricks to build walls on the straight sides, to be followed by a path later. The other side is at ground level, due to a slope. Marsh Marigolds, Japanese...

As this was an unplanned addition to the garden, I haven't spent a lot of time or money on it, but I have made some progress.

    4x2x2 Heated Pond

I had White Clouds in a greenhouse for years. Just enough heat to keep the frost out, air temperature was 4ºC minimum, I don't know how cold the water got at night, but it was often 5 or 6º in the daytime. And often over 30º in summer.

Yes, I will test it for leaks. :) Much easier to fix any problems before putting it in the ground. :)

I saw this by the roadside yesterday. So I've got some digging to do. Excuse the dead fridge, I really should find out if the council has resumed collections yet. :)

Smelly Whiskey Barrel and other issues....

Hedgehogs and toads would help. You can make suitable hiding places and hope they come. Or sometimes a wildlife hospital will be looking for homes for rescued ones when they are ready to be released.

Smelly Whiskey Barrel and other issues....

I love hoverflies. :) Perhaps you could put some of the water you take out when waterchanging into a bucket or tub. Put as many of the Rat-Tailed Maggots as you can catch in it, and put it somewhere unobtrusive like behind the shed. Some dead leaves would probably be good for them. :)

Journal Mission Bathtub and the Pollywog Party...

I love those striped snails; I only used to see them on outings to the countryside, but now I've gtot them in both front and back gardens. I don't know if they migrated into town, like the foxes, or maybe my dad put some in the garden before I inherited the house, as he was a wildlife lover too...

    H. pomatia has a light brown shell, H. aspersa is usually grey. I've had striped escargot too, I don't know what species they were.

    water lily struggling

The new leaves on some water lilies are naturally reddish, so it may not be a problem. If you could post a photo we might be able to confirm if it looks normal or not.

    Urgent help required

I'm told 'Bedec Barn Paint' will paint over and seal creosote, but don't know if it's fish safe. Apparently the makers are helpful if you contact them for advice, so it could be worth asking them. hth

    Urgent help required

I don't know about a solution, but I would cover the sleepers with plastic sheets or something similar, to keep the rain off, preventing more of the Creocote getting washed in if it rains again.

    Felt safety

Before you moved the water butt, was it full of pond life? If so the water must be OK. i've got a shed with a felt roof, feeding into a water butt, daphnia and cyclops live in the butt, so I feel safe using it in my tanks, no problems so far.
