    Cautionary Tales from an Idiot

Unlike your hair follicles, the surviving Monte Carlo can recolonise the bare patches. Yes, I would thin them out regularly. If they pile up the bottom ones can die off. When you have made a few more posts (I think it's 25) you will be able to see the 'For Sale' section of this forum. You could...

Phish is lucky he was adopted by some-one who put in the effort to give him a better home as soon as you realised you had been badly informed. :) Don't worry about getting a bigger tank, they are actually easier to care for in many ways. They tend to be more stable and anything that goes wrong...

    First water test

It can be useful to keep your floating plants confined to one (or more) corner, using a cordon of fishing line between two suction cups. They don't get as much battering from the surfae agitation, and don't get swirled all around the tank.

That seems to be a true complete fertiliser, which is good. There are quite a few on the market with 'complete' in the name but are missing vital elements. :)

I love tanks where you can't see all the fish all the time. It's like going into the wild; you know what species live in the area, but you don't know which ones you will see today. :)

I don't think so. The usual turning is by growing more on the dark side (or on the light side of roots). It's called phototropism if you want to look into it.

Transitioning Phase... (Unknown Weeks) Transitioning into a Journal

The lost eye shouldn't trouble the fish too much in itself. The biggest danger is that the wound might get infected, but you can minimise the risk by keeping good water quality. Watch out for any fungus or similar so you can treat it as soon as it appears, but it probably won't happen.

    New journey island

I think the thing is that a big group will be happy whereas a small group might or might not, perhaps depending on the individuals. So a small group may be OK, but you take a risk of them not getting along. A risk whch is much smaller with a larger group.

    Bedside Aquarium

Of course it's possible to have a beautiful planted tank without cyanobacteria or algae problems, without injecting CO2. Lots of examples on here and on the net, and aquarium books from Victorian times until the 1980s, - when CO2 injection started to become trendy. :)

    Betta Get Sorted

Don't fish most of it out, get it all. :) Once it starts it spreads like mad. I find a fork is good for getting it out when it's amongst other plants, a tea strainer is good when it's in open areas, as Darrel said. Athough it doesn't have to be a cheap plastic one, if you've got a nice silver...

    Bedside Aquarium

No, the problems come from people overloading their extensions, you won't do that. You've got an 8W lamp, two if you get the extra one, a filter, probably about6 or 8W, heater maybe 100W. Add a bedside lamp and its still well under 200W. A lot of timers are rated at 2000W, others at 3000...
