    Impulse Aldi buy - propagator

Staurogyne is super easy emmersed as long as you don't bake it or let it dry out. Here's an old thread of when I tried it in a simple ice cream tub setup. http://www.ukaps.org/forum/threads/emersed-staurogyne.21759/

'Kids' Project. Moss on Bogwood in the Garden

Too much direct sun can overheat things and cause wilting. I found this out this week. Mine was sealed though which didn't help. If it was open it may have just dried to a crisp.

    Rotting frogbit - causes/cure?

This would be my line of logic thought too. I have no clue to the contents of various ADA ferts so can't comment there. Logically, even if other plants are fine, with the access to unlimited Co2, the floaters fert uptake could possibly exceed what is being provided. Over the 6 months of the...

How to plant trimmings with next to no stem?

Forget the lead and trim the leaves. The nodes where you remove the leaves will produce roots and new side shoot. You only want to leave the top 2-3 pairs of leaves on when you plant them. Edit, if they are tiny, like 1cm-2cm long then you can grow them emersed, just sitting on top...

    Plants That I Cannot Grow

No Magnesium? Recent thread if you haven't seen it. viewtopic.php?f=11&t=22154 I would lean on the co2 side of the fence at this point. As others would say, trust your eyes. Dropchecker is a guide, I'm now running limey to yellow as I was having co2 related issues. All livestock fine. My...

Staurogyne - Help ID this deficiency?

Your tank is around 50+ liters? You could increase the liquid carbon dose if you don't have sensitive critters. Reducing light duration/intensity and adding some floating plants would help. I find staurogyne just drops it's lower leaves for me in non co2 tanks.

Newbie Planting and plant health guidance.

Hi. In the navigation menu's above there is an "articles link" This is a great place to start. Grab your self a brew when you can steal 30mins and read through http://www.ukaps.org/EI.htm A lot of people tend to use dry ferts and make up their own mixes. Sounds tricky at first but it can be...

Plant melt in new set up. Transition, C02 or LCP?

Re: Plant melt in new set up. If the plants were grown emersed then it could be transition. If they were submerged it's co2 related. I'm sure Mark Evans commented a while back about HC and something along the lines of gas injection along with liquid carbon worked best for himself. I've seen a...

plants just don't seem to grow/very very slowly

Even though you can't peer down the sides of the tank the water should look misty all over, not just at the top. This does suggest a distribution issue. It's already been mentioned that you may have just reached the limit of your setup where the only way to increase growth rates would be more...
  14. S

plants just don't seem to grow/very very slowly

Your dosing looks reasonable, although you maybe a little low on phosphates. Your are using lower light with T8's so you current dosing should suffice. When your co2 is on, if you look down the side of the tank you should see the mist rolling down the front of the tank to the substrate. If you...

http://www.ukaps.org/EI.htm It's all in there. I'll be honest, I don't understand all the numbers. I can multiply 3/16 tsp by 12 though. ;)
  17. S

    Leaves melting

I don't know about TPN+ so I won't pretend too. With EI you are aiming to provide a little more than what the tanks uptake rates would typically be. Therefore, in most cases, EI dosing will provide more than enough so it leaves you 1 less thing to worry about.

    LOOSE, BUNCHED OR POTTED?

You can simply go back through this thread and give a point for each answer. As already mentioned, you are getting answers from someone who can be bothered to reply instead of someone who just clicks a button. This is how I would approach it. If you have a good LFS you will most likely find...

    LOOSE, BUNCHED OR POTTED?

Maybe I did choose the wrong one. 24. S

    Help cutting Pogostemon Helferi

I would go a little lower, just above the lower set of leaves. Anywhere there is a joint or node can develope side shoots and roots. In a week or two the node above your circle may start throwing out roots.

    Stunted plants....

Just a thought. Would you say the stauro is slightly shaded as it seems a little darker up that corner. I have the same with some vesuvius at the end of the tank. It doesn't get the light levels as say the centre of the tank where they flourish. Your tank looks fantastic. Very nice and lush...

Why do plants lose their lower leaves?

This could well be too much light if you have no co2 delivery. Tom explained the "recycling" in more depth. So back to your case, it could well be high light, low co2 so the plant is recycling tissue to recover carbon to keep up with the high lighting you are using. Stems will bolt for the...

Why do plants lose their lower leaves?

I have naked Bacopa stems in a low tech tank. They received plenty of light. It's lack of Co2 that causes the plant to "recycle" itself, in simple terms.

    HC... what a pain

I would say it would be a wise move. You improve slightly without going overboard, giving further problems. Just my 2p ;)
  32. S

    HC... what a pain

Dropcheckers are really only a "guide" to co2 levels. With the "lag" taken into consideration a lime green drop checker at the start of the photoperiod could indicate ideal conditions but with a mass of co2 hungry plants, pummled by high light, could exhuast the initial co2 supplies rather...

Tips on the perfect Staurogyne repens carpet

I was thinking the same thing but flow and distribution appears to be very good. I'd say it could be snails munching and angels nipping by looking at it. Dc has gone a little darker in the green department, so a little twiddle has been applied. ;)

Tips on the perfect Staurogyne repens carpet

Kn03 = Potassium Nitrate. Maybe with the increase in plant mass I may try upping Ferts a little for a month or so although it could well be co2 issues no? I know my angels forage around in it a lot so I blame them.

Tips on the perfect Staurogyne repens carpet

I use wave scissors and chop back to a single pair of leaves. Looks like Tom shaved it right back to the wood which seems fine on established plants. 1st trims I would go a bit easier on it. When its so dense you can't see where your trimming then its time to hack it off.

Tips on the perfect Staurogyne repens carpet

Check back on the first page. Can't remember who posted it but strip all leaves just leaving 2-3 pairs of leaves and plant right upto the lower leaves. Advice needed for an aquascaping newbie

Your stuck between a rock and a hard place with your betta/flow situation. Pointing the spraybar in the way you have will not give a good flow around the aquarium. It's getting diffused by the side your aiming it at then just fizzling out. I have 6 CPD's and a couple of Oto's in mine.

    Hygrophila polysperma alternative?

Would you consider 11 watts CFL over 28l in an Aquastart 320 tank high light? Well I grew it fine in there with lean Ei dosing and easycarbo. It wasn't fast by any means but it grew and stayed healthy.

    Hygrophila polysperma alternative?

If the co2 is not upto scratch plants can literally melt using energy from old leaves. They kind of recycle themselves. If it's acclimatisation then it could take 3-4 weeks or more.
