I'm running a 2075 on my Rio 125 and it seems sufficient but at times I feel I could do with a little more flow. Not sure how it would perform on the 180.
You question the reliability of test kits at the end of your post and considering you have a result of 0.25ppm, well it could be zero or 5.25. Have you tested straight from the tap?
I would be surprised if the filter wasn't able to keep up with light stocking. When were the last fish...
Clear plastic would be good. Clear plastic intakes and spraybars would be welcomed by most.
I hate Fluval black ribbed tubing for the simple fact you can't see when it needs a scrub out.
Yes indeed. Junior hacksaw and just go down to the glass. Make it just wide enough for the crook to enter tank from the side then you can place your spraybar across the back easily. I didn't want to add pipe, bends etc as it all adds to flow reduction so this is what I did.
I'll try and snap a...
You can try it. The tank is long so it could be tricky. You just have to find the best way to get the flow around the dimensions of your tank. That's the tricky part especially with long or deep and odd shaped tanks.
I see it as "10 x flow" = a recommendation, a starting point. There's no point in adding extra flow if it's not needed but as all tanks differ as outline by Mar10, sometimes more flow is required than the 10x guide to achieve good distribution.
In the OP's case the tank is rather high and long...
Ehiem 2075. Will suffice if you wish to go down the co2 route at a later date. Going for a smaller filter will only cost you more in upgrades in the future.
Go large from the off and you should have a system that is more stable especially with extended periods between maintenance.
I did this with my 2075 in my Rio 125l. Once extended flow dropped considerably so this increased the flow/circulation whilst still providing the end to end coverage I needed.
I've had the deposits above the water line in the past. I put it down to the Mag Sulphate as the dose is quite high. I've halved it and have less deposits and no change in plant health. If your using the full whack you may have a fair bit in your tap too. For me that was around 10tsp in 125l...
Not tricky just need to go slowly at it with a long, thin flexible blade. It's just attached with blobs of silicone. You'll then need to shave off the excess silicone on the glass.
I never ran the tank with it in but the problem is when removing the sponges you will have a lot of waste enter...
I heard they were fiddly come maintenance so ripped it out. If your not careful you will end up with a lot of the guff you want out of the tank, blowing around inside the tank.
It free's up a hell of a lot of tank space too, you'd be amazed. ;)
These tanks used to come with a small internal.
+2 on goldfish. Show your daughter some gold white cloud mountain minnows. Great active fish, much more suitable and no heater required if kept in centrally heated home. They would produce less waste which means less tank maintenance and better...
The basic rule is considered x10 turnover so for 180l tank your looking at 1,800lph. I have just setup a rio 125 with an Eheim 2075 rated at 1250lph. Spot on you might say but the stated outputs are rarely achieved. Now I'm thinking I should have gone for something with a little more output to...
To get an idea get your garden hose pipe full of water trailing on the ground, now blow the water out of it. Easy huh.
Phase 2. Fill hose but have an assistant hold the pipe out of an upstairs window. Now blow hard. It's more than likely you cant do it and end up getting soaked.
The higher the...
Understand. My 125 project is on hold as we have a house move coming up soon. I was going to run with the internal to save cash but when I started dry scaping the big black box was driving me mad so out came the knife. It has what you need if you wanted to setup a general community tank or low...
Most people with Juwel tanks that go planted, remove the filter and upgrade to an external or 2 (depending on tank size) to get good flow. The internals also take up quite a hefty amount of space.
Replacing the media may help flow as sponge will reduce flow compared to ceramic or lava rock type...
