I feel your co2 diffuser would be better placed at the bottom of the tank, this will give the co2 mist more dwell time in the water to diffuse, the way its setup at the moment the outlet is quite possibly off gasping more co2 than is diffusing into the water.

To remove the tubing easily, try gently pushing the tube further onto the Lilly pipe, this should break the seal so to speak and the pipe will come off easily, +1 for the jbl smoked grey tube Ian_m mentioned.

Could you extend the spray bar and run it across the back wall of the tank facing forward ?

Hi James, sorry missed your reply, the 1500 would probably be overkill but full of media with inline heaters and diffusers etc the flow will drop off, a lot may depend also on substrate and hardscape used and how heavily planted the scape is, flow can be throttled back though via the tap on the...

The jbl would be my preference solid filters, easy to disconnect hose mount, though you'd need the e1501 for 16/22 hose, the 901 comes with 12/16, fwiw I use a 900 on my 60p and never quite have enough flow from just the filter.

As long as your running it along side your existing filter or filters, no issue at all, fwiw it'll only cycle the filter though, the new setup will still need to be cycled IMO, especially without plants.

Azoo mignon 60 is about the smallest I've come across hoggie, can be a bit noisy though if not kept clean.

I think outlets on the back wall, either side of the weir would create the most even flow, one in each corner would fall short in a five footer IMO lindy.

No experience of the hydor filter, I've been using the jbl cristal profi filters for the last few years and they have all been solid so far only 1 impellor replacement out of the 5 that I own, all still nearly as quiet as when I bought them fwiw.

Will you use a DIY reactor ? The e1900 has 19/25 hose so off the shelf reactors and inline diffusers won't be suitable.

Maybe worth checking the seal on the head unit make sure it's seated properly or not twisted, you can also try removing the spray bar let the air purge then refit the bar, hope you get it going mate.

It'll depend on the type of lily pipe IMO they are not all manufactured the same when it comes to restricting flow, for example I can run a cristalprofi 900 on full in a 40x40 tank with gush lillies same tank cal Aqua lillies cristalprofi 700 on full substrate and plants blown everywhere.

Yes via the outflow lever, I've used a 701 on 12 litre tank this way.

I'm using the 701 on a 40x40 40ish litre tank at the moment and it's just about spot on with lily pipes, bit too much with the supplied inlet/outlet.

Fwiw I would drain the filters and seal them back up, also worth carrying out a few 10-20% water changes throughout the time the power is out IMO, has worked for me when I was without power for around 12 hours.

Fluval 405 is probably lacking in flow to run a full length spray bar, consider supplementing with powerheads to increase flow and eliminate dead spots.

I think your eheim Will be a little lacking in power to run a spraybar the full length of the tank, Two filters will work but if you plan to run co2 you need to distribute it through both spray bars which can be a pita, if running co2 maybe consider a Lilly pipe outflow with a power head...

I didn't have any issues reducing flow with the outflow valve of the filter untill the plants had rooted well and I could turn it up, IMO I would use this method and spend the funds for the new filter on plants, hardscape, co2 canister etc etc.

I used my jbl 700 on my 12 ltr with gush nano pipes and choc full of media wasn't too much flow.

Cal Aqua inflow and outflow lillies are also worth a look IMO don't choke flow too much.

Loss of flow and maybe excess pressure on the pump resulting in damage/ leaks.

You could diy a spray bar from acrylic tube, or maybe the jbl 16/22 would work its u shape rather than curved like the crook.

Choose the biggest (highest flow rate) external filter you can afford, IME with high light tanks it's never enough flow.

Why's it got to fit 16/20 tubing ?

I run 2 900s on 40ltr & 50ltr tanks at the moment, excellent flow in each, I've tried a 700 on the 40 ltr and it just didn't cut it, using a 700 on a 12ltr tank 2/3 power.

Spraybars maybe too much, be fine with Lilly pipes I would say, two 900s with spraybars would work also.

I'm toying with buying another 1501 to add to my 180, depending on hardscape layout I've really struggled with flow at times, depending on layout you could use just the 1 or dial the flow back on 1, can't comment on the tetratecs cause I've never used 1 but the jbl's are almost silent.

Hi Adam, I think you'll be fine with the 206, I'm using a cristalprofi 700 on a 12 liter tank at the moment, I just packed it full of filter media and ceramics, it moves the substrate a little when clean. Lilly pipes will slow the flow or if using a spraybar the holes can be enlarged to soften...

You could make a lily to suit your needs using acrylic tube.

I would always drain the water from the filter just to be on the safe side, 1 hour power cut turned into 12 hours when the engineer found it was the supply to the flat not the fuse last year, better safe than sorry IMO and it should be no hassle to prime the filter again.

Jbl e700 with gush nano pipes from apfuk would be my choice mate, the jbls flow adjustable so ideal for a small tank IMO, I've used one on a 12 ltr nano.

I would think using www.aquariumplantfood.co.uk/tools-glass/cascade-glassware/inlet-pipes/cascade-glass-nano-inlet-pipe-17mm.html then a reducer to 13mm lily on the outflow should be doable shouldn't put excess pressure on the pump which is the usual problem with reducing the hose size.

Hi fran, I'm using a lily outlet on the 1500 and a diy acrylic outlet on the 900 opposite corners one pushing along the front of the tank other pushing along the back, tried spraybars but couldn't get good flow at the back due to hardscape.

I have a 90x45x45 and I'm running a 1500 and 900 cristal profi, you may need to add a power head with just the 1500 IMO.

I use the jbl's and find them good flow wise the 900 should be fine for a 60p.

Thinking about it more, probably, could be difficult to find the best layout for in/ outflows maybe both outflows pointing towards the "point" with the inflows either side of them outflows angled slightly.

I run a couple of these, removed all the blue foam apart from the top tray, sintered glass media split between the other two trays, also found lily pipes choke the flow a little using a gush nano jet outflow on one at the moment and it's vastly improved flow.

Maybe best to have inflow in the center pointing towards each arm with outflows in the back corners if that makes sense.

900 would have suited that size tank more.

I've used the jbls since starting fishkeeping and not found anything to put me off them yet, really easy to maintain and operate, silent running, affordable and fairly good flow, can't fault them.

Hi Karen I'd be inclined to use a hob filter like the ehiem liberty or similar.

Have you checked the seal is seated properly mate, I had a twisted rubber seal on a cristalprofi causing it to leak.

Just my observations over the last 12 months or so I still have bba spores on the dragonstone in my 12ltr shrimp nano just doesn't grow into tufts if I keep up with water changes, and I don't like liquid carbon in my shrimp tanks, lighting intensity is also a large factor IMO.

I'm not personally a fan of no water changes I've only had bba on my low techs when I've not done water changes or left filter maintainance longer than normal.

Is the bba on the plants rick or just the hard scape ?

1600 is not that much stronger than the 900 ime rick especially in a larger tank, but no they aren't adjustable power wise.

I think you should approach him awb, stainless steel tubing 13mm external diameter for 12/16 filters or 17mm ed for 16/22 filters should do I'd definately be interested at the right price.

Ime you need more than 10x turnover to get the best out of lilies.

You really need the internal diameter of the acrylic and the hose to match up mate or til restrict flow the hose dipped in boiling water will stretch, bending the acrylic takes a bit of practice and patience my first few attempts didn't go well :lol:

Hi lee, you can make the intake and leave end open and use a mesh shrimp filter guard if you don't mind the aesthetics of them, that's how I have mine on my nano.

I've had one of the boyus running for nearly 12 months now did have some problems with the hose collapsing so diy'd acrylic pipes connected with an inch of hose, has run perfectly since.

JBL Cristalprofi e900 - Aquatis Fresh water - JBL 900 lph 12/16 hose good filters IMO.

Hi trev, an external rated above 600 ltr/hour should be adequate for your tank size, on my old 60 ltr I used a jbl e700, for the money the jbl filters are extremely good IMO think there was one in the for sale section recently.

Recently rescaped a tank for my lfs just drained all the water out of the filter and resealed it replant and fill happened 7 days later filter still smelt great and their tests showed no ammonia/ nitrite on restarting the tank.

You can buy solid acrylic rod to fit the internal diameter of the spray bar and cut a piece to bung the end ( easier to clean this way) or heat and pinch the end with pliers to seal.

Water conditioners containing aloe etc renders the purigen useless because it coats the granules so it can't absorb anything this will happen if you use said water conditioners for water changes unless you switch to prime don't waste your money on purigen use carbon and regular tank maintenance.

Flow can be restricted on all the cristalprofi range of filters with the lever on the return pipe.i would opt for the 1501 on a 150 ltr tank

Should be ok with the Eco on a low tech maybe have a read through big Tom and alistairs journals see what they use they are pretty much low tech gods IMO :-) you can always supplement the filter with a power head if you feel you have dead spots in the tank, I think with low tech getting the...

Well ideally you would have outlet nozzles and circulation pumps all facing forwards so as not to cause conflicting flow patterns.

Hi Alastair, personally I've found the gush type filter guards fine enough to stop shrimplets, they do need weekly cleaning though.
