    Blue leds and algae

It'll depend on the intensity of the blue LEDs if it's not many blues, I don't see it being an issue.

    Glare from LED lighting?

I have the a series on my 90cm and 60cm tanks, light spill is much less than my t5 luminaries, even the wife is happy with them

    Upgrade from Aquael Leddy Smart

https://www.ukaps.org/forum/threads/chihiros-a-series-fresh-water-led-cheap-quality-led.43026/ Just bought the 60cm version for my 60p affordable and seems great quality, if a little too powerful but comes with a built in dimmer.

    Lighting suitability

Hi mate, I have the 90cm version, good lights though the legs are a bit flimsy (broke mine ) you may find it a bit powerful over 10 inch tank height but if you can suspend it over the tank the intensity can be adjusted by raising the fixture, I've had mine a few years now and it's still...

    ADA 301 for 30cm cube?

Mini m is only 22 deep so you may find a bit of par drop off at the front and rear of the tank, though most scapes I've seen them on, they seem to be a bit too bright so may be about perfect for a 30cm cube.
  10. tim

    Light time duration opinions

Is that 30 height ? I'm using the aquael leddy over my low tech in my signature it is very bright directly under it so I just let some stems run a bit wild to diffuse the light a little I ran a 6 hour photoperiod for about 4 weeks then went to 8 hours, not much in the way of algae other than on...

    Ideas wanted

Kessil's are very stylish but expensive, slimline led floodlights suspended from a light frame perhaps, greenfinger2 uses the floodlights to great effect over his tanks.

    Azoo Flexi Mini

Used the flexi mini over my mini m http://www.ukaps.org/forum/threads/minimal-thread-closed.37539/ I found it plenty bright enough as you can see by the algae posts in the journal

    Flexi-M Mini LED

I'm using one over a mini m at the minute, I would hazard a guess medium-high light depending on depth of substrate etc been enough to grow medium difficulty plants and enough to grow BBA and thread algae when I've been a bit slack  a dimmer would be a nice addition so it could be used for...

Reducing Light Intensity With Grey Acrylic

If you bought the cover glass with the mini m Andy layers of window frosting will help reduce the light, I've used this method and it works well, also once you are confident and tank/plants have matured you can easily remove the film for more light.

    ADA 60P Lighting Options

Hi dan, can't help on the led front as I've never used leds, two t5 tubes will be plenty to grow any plant with the right flow/co2 though I've found the 4tube units come In very handy to add some extra light for photography.

    t5 and algae

    Tank with Flourish Excel

Plenty of par charts you can use on the net google aquarium par chat or search it on here, "s" means plural as in more than one, as in two.
  23. tim

    Tank with Flourish Excel

Par should intrigue you more :-) personally I would use two t5s the length of the tank and suspend them somehow to adjust the intensity.
  24. tim

New scape but a bit rusty......

2 tubes as long as they are the length of the tank should be plenty to grow most plants and you have the option of the 4 to speed things up as long as you match co2/flow and maintenance with the plant growth. Replace the bulbs if it makes you happy, personally i replace mine if they blow/ don't...

    Led lighting for 15l tank

The disposable 16 or 88g co2 sets will work out extremely expensive in the long run, I'd choose a co2art reg and adapter to use 600g welding gas bottles if you don't have room for a 2 kg fe or bottle. A fluval 11 a clip on light would work ok for that size tank with co2 post up in the for...

    Newbie juwel rekord 800

Hi Chris, how experienced are you with the planted hobby ? My advice would be keep the t8s for now get your scape up and running flow/co2 on point as you put it then upgrade your lighting if you feel you need to, I've grown most popular carpet plants under t8s.
  37. tim

    Getting frustrated.

Hey mike, thanks, that pic was a couple of years ago, don't have the tank anymore but the grass was parvula, with the co2 I aimed for a lime green drop checker at lights on, as I said mate 15w t8 it was slow but steady I planted the grass in clumps about 1 cm apart it is a slow plant to get...
  38. tim

    Getting frustrated.

Quick pic of mine, nothing special scape wise but I cut the lights after a lot of reading on the forum, slow steady trouble free growth, something I've rarely managed under t5 lighting
  39. tim

    Getting frustrated.

Hi mike, I had the same tank when I started the hobby, no end of issues until I switched from the stock lighting to just a 15w t8, if you want the hairgrass to carpet quickly add more hairgrass rather than bombard it with light, hairgrass is fairly slow growing even high tech ime.

Hi viktor, I've found the chart in post number 7 of this thread quite useful as a guide to lighting http://www.ukaps.org/forum/threads/sudden-algae-problem.32535/#post-345431 I've always used too much lighting until I read this chart and now aim to be in the low-med light range.

    Help me Understand

Flow looks good apart from the far left hole seems to direct back to the right of the tank, your mc seems to be sending out runners, I'd be tempted to split those clumps up even further for faster/ better coverage.

Do I have too much light?

I'm finding the hobby much easier since using this chart as a rough guide to stay in the low to medium light bracket, your call though.

    Lighting Options

I use the aps luminare above my 3ft at the moment, took me a year to figure out cheap doesn't mean weak when it comes to t5s. I ended up suspending mine to give me more control over intensity and reduce algae issues.
  50. tim

    anyone used beamswork ligh unit

Maybe email tmc and ask if the aqua bar dimmer would work with them it's manual but at least you could alter the intensity if it's too strong retails at around £15 I think.

    lighting for 35l and headaches

I kept 5 in mine 40x40 footprint they were fine 2m 3f they got a bit waspy with each other at feeding time, tank was well planted though few pics in this thread my pygmy puffer tank | UK Aquatic Plant Society Think you should be ok as long as they are sexed properly.
  52. tim

    lighting for 35l and headaches

That'll be fine for low tech mate, I kept Pygmy puffers for a while lovely little fish, they will appreciate lots of plants and shady areas you can always add floating plants if you find the light too strong.

    lighting for 35l and headaches

How deep is the tank mate ? Anything around or below 30cm and you should do fine with that light ime.
  55. tim

    Help me Understand

Is it possibly too much flow ? Co2 passing the plants before they can utilise it.
  56. tim

    anyone used beamswork ligh unit

Why not setup with the t5s you got mate but suspend them then you can raise or lower them at will to deal with any issues, then upgrade to LEDs once you have the tank knocked into shape.
  57. tim

    A few nooby lighting questions!

24 w of t5 is very high light over a tank of 31 cm depth ime you would need spot on co2 flow and distribution the 11 w lights will give you more control over light input over the tank. For what it's worth LEDs would be a viable option but as you have an 11 w already why not set up and see what...

Lights for ADA Mini M - low tech?

The boyu units are good IMO for the money, you don't need to remove tubes either there's two switches, one for the center bulb one operates the other two or all 3 on, i had them knocking about though, if I was buying now I'd have to consider LEDs.
  62. tim

    Anyone using these without trouble?

Maybe up your intensity but cut a couple of hours off the photoperiod, make sure co2 is optimum at lights on, Ian holdich recommended purigen to keep diatoms at bay which I have to agree saw mine off, could also be a distribution of flow issue as much as I like spray bars i find with lots of...
  63. tim

    Anyone using these without trouble?

Pogo stellatus is a really difficult stem to grow IMO only does ok under really high light, swap it out for some limnophilia aromatica similar stem bit easier once it gets going.
  64. tim

What photoperiod do our plants really need ?

I use 6-8 hours depending on lighting t8s 8 hours is fine IMO t5 shorter photoperiod is plenty.
  65. tim

    Pricing up used Arcadia luminare

Unfortunately with the reasonably priced LEDs hitting the market it's a buyers market more than a sellers, spot on though Paulo quality luminaries.

    Anybody got one of these

    Algae and light?

Dose po4 dry and it will sink to where you want it on the substrate that should give you your answer if it clears up then.
  80. tim

    Anyone used this?

First pic in my journal in my sig mate, just to clarify its the light hanger that's not so sleek unit itself is not too bad mate.
  81. tim

    Anyone used this?

Yeah think so mate tbh it's fairly ugly so I'd probably DIY one or look at a na light hanger from freshwater shrimp not much more expensive. Think they sell their hanging kit seperately though sure it could be adapted to hang the two tube light.
  82. tim

    Anyone used this?

Too true mate, could be suspended higher if needed with light hanger or brackets etc
  83. tim

    Anyone used this?

Long as your co2 ferts distribution is all sorted mate. good enough for the money IMO.

Hi Martin, I'm using the 90cm version over my optiwhite it's a good enough light for me managed to grow all types of algae ;-)
  85. tim

    Lighting choice

  89. tim

    fluval edge led light bar

hey mate, growth was good had to be matched with lots of co2 ferts etc in the end became to much maintainance for me with other tanks to look after, its now a low tech shrimp tank 5 hour photoperiod to keep the algae at bay :)
  90. tim

Lighting for low-tech - which bulb?

I'm running just one 15 w over my 60 ltr think its about 18 inch tall managing to grow hair grass albeit slowly seems less is more with lighting hope this helps

    Lighting for my nano.

It's quite a shallow tank mate I think whichever lighting choice you make base it on the co2 you can add like foxfish said metal halide = lots of co2
  92. tim
