    Emersed Setups- a growing collection

Great thread :-) most plants I have grown emersed are smaller/ have smaller leaves than their submersed counterparts, don't be suprised if they revert once back under water.

    Wabi Kusa-Kusamono ?

Probably because the term wabi-kusa is now used to describe any aquatic plants grown emersed, I should of lifted the driftwood out of my low tech and entered
  5. tim

    Wabi Kusa-Kusamono ?

Nice mate very nice, glass in the link looks good too for the money, isn't wabi-kusa a term coined by ADA ? So you would be correct the image in your first link would be kusamono.

Advice on what will happily grow on top of floating cork bark.

Wrapping the cork bark with moss then placing the hc over the moss may work as long as the moss stays damp the hc will root into it, spraying/misting the hc a couple of times a day may also help.Micranthemum Monte Carlo may be a good alternative to hc also.

    Floating plants

These were under artificial light around the same intensity as in the tank, I'm hoping it'll have the effect of a heated propagator without the cost ;-)

    Floating plants

Evening folks, I've had a few tubs of various plants going for a little while mainly moss and hydro trip Japan, started to notice a drop in growth I'm assuming due to lower winter temps, so I've decided to float them in my low tech, a week in the moss looked very happy so I've added a few more...

    White thread like fungus

Anchor moss grows really well emersed if you chop it up and paint it on lava rock or wood etc it takes off really well. Looking forward to seeing your emersed setups.

    White thread like fungus

Use a small artists brush to paint the peroxide/ liquid carbon onto the fungus easier to stay away form the plants, worked for me with a couple of wabi's I kept too moist.

    Propagator

I had the same happen mid summer, I put it down to too much heat on a south facing windowsill.
  12. tim

    Show us your propagator

Sort of :) just below the exclamation point rasbora I'll try and get a better pic of it over the weekend mate.
  13. tim

    Show us your propagator

Hi Michael, Xmas moss on most of the wood with some fissidens on two bits, fissidens struggles and on the rocks is anchor moss this stuff does really well emersed ime.
  14. tim

    Show us your propagator

Mines moss at the moment all bits of wood/rocks from previous scapes I chuck em in and see if it'll stay alive until I want to use them again.

    Terrarium?

Always used to use tap but you can see the build up on the plants over time, plus not having to clean the glass is always a bonus :-)

Seeking guidance- my first Wabi- Kusa project

Hi sacha, if you intend to flood the tank like above use an Ada type substrate, tmc nutrasoil or Colombo florabase are cheaper alternatives, John Inness will need capping ime.

    Terrarium?

No mate, Ro doesn't contain any minerals so the plants and glass stay nice and clean.
  22. tim

    Kokedama

Hi mick, it is indeed crassula ovata, got a couple of cuttings from my grandad last year and just stuck them in pots with cat litter, hoping the percentage of cat litter and hydrolecea in the bottom will keep the roots dry enough for it to thrive whilst a quick daily spray will keep the moss...
  23. tim

    Kokedama

Ha wish it did maybe I could afford a real bonsai  I'm hoping a daily spray of the moss will be enough to keep it uncovered as it was growing just up the road it should do ok in room humidity.

    Kokedama

Inspired by Antonis thread http://www.ukaps.org/forum/threads/my-kokedama-venture.31999/ I thought I'd give my own a go :) Mud pie mix of worm castings from the garden and some tescos cat litter Some moss I found growing on a local fallen tree Lined a bowl with cling film to shape the mud pie...

    Terrarium?

Your bio orb would be perfect mate, I like to use a layer of hydrolecea capped with Colombo florabase ( nice and fertile ) add hardscape if you wish for aesthetics and plant it up, you can use cuttings from your tanks or buy fresh plants spray with ro water once a day, keep covered to keep...

    Terrarium?

It's a cookie jar by the looks of it Richard tescos sell them cheap, I'm using one to house a sort of wabi kusa bottle garden at the moment works well due to the lid I only have to spray it once a week.

    Grow tank?

Long as it's covered with water should be fine, it may well turn on and off more so you could expect a shorter life span, photoperiod will be fine I ran a wabi kusa on a 6am- 11-12pm photoperiod and was all good.
  33. tim

    Grow tank?

Shouldn't cause any issues it'll cut in and out as the surrounding water reaches temperature.
  34. tim

    Grow tank?

Simple and cheap like me ;-) amanos would be perfect little cleaners I'd only add ottos if you have a lot of diatoms if not hold off until you get the big tank they can be sensitive little fish when moving tanks.
  35. tim

    Grow tank?

You could just tie the anubias and ferns to suction cups and stick em to the glass they only fall off if they get too big.
  36. tim

    Grow tank?

    Yes it does :-)
