Good to see you back on the forum Gary,
Depending on water parameters, these are a couple of my favourite small fish
http://www.seriouslyfish.com/species/celestichthys-erythromicron/
http://www.seriouslyfish.com/species/boraras-urophthalmoides/
I kept a group of boraras urophthalmoides (around 50 odd) in a 90x45x45 and never had any jump they did school well but I found they did seperate into to groups lovely little fish if you can get hold of them.
Lovely looking fish I wasn't aware of before this thread so thanks :-) I have a shoal/ school (never sure which is correct ) of pygmies adorable fish which when active swim mid water tightly together closely followed by a few of my pencil fish, fun to watch, good luck with the search for...
Couldn't the air stone be replaced with a cheap power head, you could add some sponge to the power head to stop any accidents, I think they would prefer some flow, seriously fish states they come from sluggish streams so full on river type flow may not be nescersary, in fact I have an old hob...
Got a school/shoal of Pygmy Corries in my 3ft high tech London tap tank they spawn frequently, but in retrospect I'd have them in a black water setup can't catch the little buggers no though, fish keeping as well as plant keeping is a giant learning curve.
Hi geraint, sorry I don't have any vids but I have kept various Corries over the 3 years I've kept fish from trillenatus to Pygmy on substrates from pea gravel to cat litter via florabase to unipac micro gravels /sands all in London tap water (hard) IMHO Corries will be fine if you keep a clean...
I love ottos tbh brown black zebra whichever I'd love to setup a biotope for them one day they are marvellous fish which are underrated IMO :-) not just diatom eaters. I'd love to have room for a dedicated otto tank :-)
Sparkling gouramis are beautiful fish but, (don't you hate buts) not always shrimp friendly I'm afraid, will gang up on adult dwarf shrimp and religiously pick the eggs off berried shrimp in my experience, just for info mate.
ingienious i would say, hard to get small fish to eat sometimes, i have been known to grind up flake and tetra prima with a pestle and mortar, maybe add some blanched nettle to the mix next time for the shrimp :) i can see my wifes face when i'm trying this out tomorrow, whats for dinner darling...
I keep corries in ei co2 injected tanks mate not had a problem with them a few are about 3 years old, how deep is your substrate I've found sand can compact and become anaerobic , corries disturb the substrate a lot so can release trapped gas causing water quality issues ???
id rather not risk it to be honest these have been with me for a couple of years mate even back in my days of listening to my lfs for stocking advice 10 in a fluval edge with corries (bad i now know) to be honest ive only ever found one dry fish one of my pygmy puffers and it upset me greatly i...
hi, i have a group of these in a tank i will soon be transfering into a larger opentop tank and would like to know if they are likely to jump quite attached to them interestin charecters but wouldnt like to see them come to any harm any help greatly appreciated
cheers
Couple of questions if I may my local lfs always advises the fish less cycle but not once did they advise me to add ammonia so how would this work I have heard of them keeping customers waiting upto 4 months before stocking I don't think their intentions are bad they are just misguided better...
My local ma states they will only buy captive bred ones due to over fishing they should do ok on crushed flake or pellet food with daphnia and bbs every few days they are shy IME though
my other half has her betta in my 23ltr edge hes been around for 2 years lots of folks say dont do it because of the small opening and labyrinth fish need to take oxygen from above the water but to be honest hers isnt stupid he knows where the opening is breathes there sits waiting for food...
so it says mate you may have stumbled upon a rare or wild caught strain always liked x ray tetra where did you find them i think those flicks of colour on their fins will blend nicely in your scape
blanched courgette takes them ages to eat it though in my experience just leave it in for an hour or so a day they will eat when they are hungry and no algae to satisfy them
i hope they are mate i'd love to try them again lovely little fish imo maybe one day i'll make that move to ro water to hooked on plants at the moment though
are they known as clown killies if so i had 3 a couple of years ago for about 3 months fluval edge london tap water lost them bad lfs advice not sure if it was water params or tank size that finished them off good luck with them stunning fish
