I knocked my thermostat during water change. Pushed temp up to 30 C for a week before I realised the evaporation was high and the water was really warm to touch. My plants suffered especially the staurogyne (old leaves yellowing) and some crypts started dropping leaves.
Much better since...
Re: Help White spot
Metronidazole is used for saltwater ich, not sure about freshwater ich.
Nystatin is an antifungal so not certain of its usefulness but still looking into that.
fenbendazole has potential - I have seen it described as being used with shrimp to clear planaria etc - BUT - I'm...
Re: Help White spot
John will the fish and shrimp survive 90F? All the treatments I have researched will be toxic to your invertebrates. 80F will not kill the parasite you need to go to 90F.
This is from a University help sheet
"Temperature manipulation is also an effective way to control...
I have an LED lighting system and I can leave the lights on at night at a low setting. I have measured the PAR level at the surface at 2 which is very low.
Do plants need total darkness and can algae use this lower level of light?
I don't have a chemistry degree but I have to wonder what adding EI ferts + high levels of co2 to a tank do to the water chemistry.
I was once told that the scum on top of the bath water was mostly calcium carbonate.
How do all these salts and co2 interact in the water column before we...
So I have some spirogyra. The plan is a blackout for 3 days, with a large water change each day and no ferts or CO2. The tanks covered in black bin bags.
Is that the way you do a complete black out?
So do these Crustaceans enter the tank via the plants we buy? Are they found in everyones tanks except those perhaps with lots of fish?
Interesting that they survived the high ammonia levels.
So you know whats its like. Your starring into the depths of your tank willing your Fissidens fontanus to grow while you watch. That's when I saw it! A speck so tiny my 40yr old eyes could only just resolve it :geek: . It was swimming from leaf to leaf. Reminded me of a microscopic version...
So do I worry about the plants not pearling? As the tank is new and not cycled I assume increasing the lighting is a bad thing as with all the ammonia present it will just cause algae.
Is pearling essential to indicate photosynthesis?
So my 180l tank is 6 days old and for the first 5 days I did at least a 50% water change. Back at work today so today was the first day with no water change. CO2 addition at about 8 drops per sec. C02 yellow. Add 10 mls easycarb a day plus Ada brighty k. My lighting is on for 8hrs with the...
Re: What's the demand for high street planted aquarium shops
I 2nd that! Owning your own business has some rewards like self determination, potential financial reward for hard work and the freedom to say "I'll take next week off". However the reality is it's 24/7, you wake up and go to sleep...
