    External CO2 reactor

Nice job, good writeup as well, similar to the ones that I make for myself except I usually use 40mm tubing.

    Bending Clear Perspex Tubing

Very good effort Matt I can see this catching on, lots of new custom combinations of inlets outlets and spraybar lily pipe arrangements etc, trial and error at first but Im sure some new techniques will surface to advance this side of the hobby. I will have to dig out my heatgun and see what I...

    Bending Clear Perspex Tubing

Great guides brilliant really, I wonder how it would work with larger diameter acrylic tubing, 15-20 mm sort of range, 12mm is only really good for smaller filters what size tubing did you use Matt, look forward to the pics as well when you get a chance.

    edited: any thoughts on the size 36w x 15h x 17d"

Re: any thoughts on the size 36 x 15 x 15" Hi 4, having more depth is always a good option, 45cm depth would be better IMO, but it really depends on the restrictions you face obviously. Being able to see a tank from both sides is also a consideration if you want to photograpth the tank later...

    60x45x45 equipment choices

I have a Ex1200 on a 60Wx45Dx36H cm it does the job for me.

    60x45x45 equipment choices

I suppose they are not badly priced, I find EQJ trading stuff expensive for what you get tbh, dodgy ballasts and all. The legs on the smaller 60cm EQJ units are a joke as well. Would the fans make a difference on the first luminaire you have linked I wonder, keeping things cool and all? there...

What weight will the bottom of a tank take?

I've used polysyrene in the past (lots of it) and it can get a bit messy after a while especially if you move things around a bit later on or are using lots of rocks, but still a very workable solution IMHO. Recently another solution that I have used is to get a sheet of perspex and cut it to...

    DIY inline CO2 diffuser

Very good idea mate, so simple, the addition of the locking nut is basically giving you a quasi mazzei effect, I'd say you could improve upon it by using step down reducers either side of the Reducing T Piece, a simple idea would be to use hose pipe of gradually reducing smaller sizes pushed...

Water syphon bargain alert from B&Q

A minor report from the front  Well I have been using my syphon for a few weeks now and I have to say the tubing that comes with it is, well, pants, its way too narrow, it takes a long time to empty a largish tank say 150-200l, so I have to take back my recommendation on that score...

Water syphon bargain alert from B&Q

Hi everyone, I just picked up one of these from B&Q over here for the cost of€8.80, in the UK these are only £6. Basically a heavy duty water syphon. Total length of the hose is 12ft or 365cm, comes with a hose connector to add extra length of hose if needed. The only drawback I can see is...

    Best tank size

I would also go with a 30x15x15 tank if you are limited to this space, it will be easier to aquascape successfully than a 30x15x18 high tank. How do I know this? because I have a 30x18x18 (75x45x45cm) tank and it can be difficult at times to make aquascapes fit this tank, it needs a certain type...

DIY Project DIY Reactor - pictures, assembly and testing

Hi Lee Im useing a Tetratec EX1200 on my external reactor, similar to the one Ed here has made and its the only filter that has worked perfectly for me on this reactor. Up to this I had used less powerful filters on the same reactor and had CO2 buildup etc in the reactor chamber, since I added...

    Dealing with condensation

I have 3 open top tanks in one room with a large window( double glazed mind you, maybe thats the difference?) and don't have any problems with condensation. I'd say go for it, you could always put a cover on later if it became an issue.

    Luminaires with 2 switches.

They would come on if both switches are in the "on" position. You can have 1, 2 or all 3 tubes on (or off!) at the same time by simply switching the on/off switches before you stick it on the timer. You cant have, say, one tube on and then expect the other two to come on later unless you do it...

    ETH300 Question

I used an extra long loop of pipe hosing coming down from the lily pipe inside the tankstand and the ETH then hangs from the ceiling :) of my tank stand, so basically I screwed a hook directly underneath the tank and the ETH hangs from that loosely with a bit of wire a few inches down from the...

    ETH300 Question

Auto dry salt dosing, possible with this?

wasserpest thats the man alright. Peralistic pumps are used in hospitals for dosing medication through drips and stuff, you can pick them up off ebay if you want to try a DIY approach.

Auto dry salt dosing, possible with this?

Lots of information on this subject over on the planted tank forum if you do a search, one of the mods(whose name I forget, sorry! ) did a lot of testing on various devices to make this work, some pretty extensive research was done on this. Nearly sure there is a sticky in one of the sections...

How long are heater thermostats on on average per day?

I did some tests some time ago using an energy monitor and If I recall it cost approx €1(about 80p)per week to run a 200W heater on a 150l tank with an enclosed lid. I cant remember how long the heater remained on each day but this obviously is determined by the ambient room temperature and...

    Alternative to Eheim double taps?

Cheers guys, just the eheim taps add up when you need a good few of them, pricey, but I will admit other than price I have no complaints the product works well. I will keep looking, forget about the fluval and might check out some pond stuff see if I can find anything there. Thankyou.

    Alternative to Eheim double taps?

Is there? I need a good few double taps but don't want to feel extorted by eheim is there an alternative, I'm looking for 12-16mm double taps. I know somewhere in the distant past I saw Fluval taps but can't seem to find these, anyone any ideas where to look or have you found an alternative.

    Juwel Rio 180

Most of the Juwel tanks are not deep enough front to back IMHO, most off the shelf tanks are the same though I suppose thats why I voted custom or other.
