I can reduce the flow using the eheim double taps. I never run the filter full flow but I’m wondering if I reduce the flow even further if it will damage the motor.

Have you tried decapsulated brine shrimp eggs? It does not need to be hatched and you can get large quantities of it for relatively cheap on ebay or amazon. I feed my CPDs the decapsulated brine shrimp eggs and frozen bloodworms. The tiny CPD fry get fish food ground into powder.

Dirted tank method would be my tip, with a good covering of sand, and a divider. Topping up tends to be every couple of days, but just a half jug, very speedy. Some leaves. Sponge filters x 2 small. A pothos with roots dangled in.

I'm no pro but houseplants are your friend, monstera, spider plants, peace Lily. Epiphytes and no aquasoil worked well for me with a tiny internal filter and a desk lamp. Topping up and sporadic smallish water changes was all that was needed

Vallisnera sp completely melted with me when I applied Excel to my low tech tank. I tried about 3 times, all with the same result. Now, I have the large vallisneria gigantea growing beautifully, but not a single DROP of Excel anywhere near my tank! (Yes, glass need a good clean, I know...)

I've found that Hydropogonella gymnostoma (Queen moss) does not like being hit directly with glutaraldehyde. Diluted in water column is okay though. The various other mosses I have don't seem to be bothered.

Hi all, The problem is that they don't have stomata and they take nutrients (and oxidising agents) directly through the "skin" (cuticle). This makes them much more prone to damage from <"oxidising agents"> (like glutaraldehyde). cheers Darrel

I think you’re right. The estimate jumped up to 125 minutes earlier. I assume the estimate is based on the current power draw and that will change based on the room / tank temperature. Looking forward to a proper test tomorrow.

You can probably assume that the heater won't be running full time during the power outage, so the total duration could be much longer than in the worse case scenario where it just stays on.

In my experience vallis won't die instantly with water column glutaraldehyde (Excel) but isn't very happy about it.

About £120 by Dhl, i would very much recommend delivery by EMS it is quite a bit cheaper and goes through customs quicker, Dhl always say theres a proplem because you have no Peach notification, (IPAFFS is needed ) they don't even know what is required.
