marine ply looks lovely if you put the work into sanding and prepping it. I've used the stuff many a time. If you're splashing the cash I can't blame you though

Not as nice as 18mm solid pine though....so the mrs says anyway

Shudder. Nah, It's all about the veneer, you can get a much nicer grain on ply as long as you pay that extra bit for matured wood. I personally find pine to warp a charm when used on aquariums. That said I never sealed mine, only oiled.

Bit of an update.....added some more wood and i'm pretty pleased with plant growth.
