So I recently moved house and took the opportunity to start afresh, after 2 years of following the wrong paths and essentially failing to keep a scape with healthy plant growth.
Largely I’m pleased with the result of 2 years learnings and reading a lot, but I’m battling a case of brown hair algae without much luck.
Info on the tank -
90ltr superfish scaper
Aquamanta efx200 filter with co2 reactor
Ecotech radion freshwater xr15 (purchased second hand for a steal) which I’ve already reduced intensity to 45% from 55%. They are also mounted slightly higher as I chose not to attach the arm mount to the tank, due to them just not feeling that safe on the 8 or maybe 10mm glass. Current lighting period is on the planted tank setting, scheduled on a 1hr ramp up/1hr ramp down from 1.30pm to 11pm - wondering whether the pre-set ramp up ramp down is too long? Or photo period in general, or intensity. Lots of wondering… 😂
I have ada Amazonia at the back of the tank on the left and right, with a fine grey gravel with various crypts, lobelia cardinalis, lilaeopsis novea-Zealandia which all seem to be doing great, along with the limnophila aromatica and hygrophila corymbosa stems. However, my pogostemon helferi and vesicularia moss are covered in a brown hair algae (see pics) and despite cleaning it off as best as I can daily it keeps coming back!
Tank is stocked with copper harlequin and neon green rasbora, few otos, 3 nerites and a pair of ebr’s
It’s now around 4 weeks old and after doing 50% WC’s daily week one, every other day week two and twice a week from week 3/4.
Tank was cycled with mature media and parameters are consistent zero ammonia or nitrites.
Ferts wise I’m following the recommended dosage for 2hr aquarist EI in a bottle.
Phew! Have I missed anything? Would welcome any thoughts or advice around whether I just wait this out as new tank drama, or whether I need to change something
