Hi Richard,

Tom B mentioned that you are going to do your own version of a liquid carbon supplement http://www.ukaps.org/forum/viewtopic.php?f=11&t=5552, just wondered if/when you are hoping to have this available and of course the price?

Many thanks

Sam
Yep I've prepared the mix and it's now resting for 48 hours

I'll be listing prices in the very near future - look out for other new bits under our own label AE Design

I've been using it for a few years.
I mentioned it to AE and they are now making it.

So it should reduce the cost a lot.
Helps AE, helps you.

This is great, nice and cheap is what we like! Being the skeptical type, I'll wait until someone else tries it first though.

I thought i would do a price comparison for a heavily planted, 100l tank to keep things simple

AE, 500ml = £8 (2ml per 50l for heavily planted)

4ml daily
500/ 4 = 125days (6.4p per day)

Easylife EasyCarbo, 500ml = £11 (1ml per 25l for heavily planted)

4ml daily
500/ 4 = 125days (8.8p per day)

Seachem excel, 500ml = £16 (5ml per 200l)

2.5ml daily
500/ 2.5 = 200days (8p per day)

So according to my calculations Easycarbo is actually dearer than excel! Although excel is a "one dose suits all tanks" so you may need to dose a bit more than reccomended

Good price Richard :D .

The question is "How effective this is when compared to other products?"
If it works as well as the others then fair enough but there isn't much proof of that for now. Just have to wait and see what people think about it when they tried it.
Also you may be getting it cheaper but do you need to dose the same quanties or more?? It all depends how its been mixed also and everytime might not be the same.

Its always good to have an alternative, just have to see how it fairs when people start using it.

I'm sure it is, but I was just asking how AE have test? we have no way of knowing if they are doing the same as Tom?

I'm curious thats all not trying to stir a hornets nets or anything, as I'm sure as most here will agree, we have very expensive flora and fauna in or tank and would like to know:)

i wouldnt question the toxicity to plants & fish, i am sure the reccomended level is well within the safe limit. The quality/ concentration may vary slightly from batch to batch however it is still worth the price IMO.

I think we need to remember that this has been recommended to Richard at Aqua Essentials by Tom Barr - that probably means it's going to be of good quality.

I tried to point this out earlier but it was deleted. I know its AE

In calculating the costs you have only used the base cost and not any delivery costs and products bought from AE.

Cost of AE Aqua Carbon 500ml = £8.00 + £4.95 p&p = £12.95 500/ 4 = 125days (10.36p per day)

Cost of Easycarbo (cheapest place) 500ml £9.90+ 2.90 p&p = £12.80 500/ 4 = 125days (10.24p per day)

Theres not a lot of difference.

It's a new product, from a reputable, very reliable supplier and I for one am willing to support AE and give it a try ;) I ordered more than one item at the same time so the delivery cost is not so bad.
