Hi,

Our existing tank is growing well and little new algae, but it still has a fair bit of BBA growths from when things were unbalanced, too many to attempt to remove or kill off manually.
Looking to start off a new different tank with new substrate etc but using the original external filter and sensors .
The old tank will be kept going for a while with a new filter but using the media from the old filter.

How careful must we be to avoid bringing BBA in this new tank?
Should we not just clean but bleach everything in the old filter and its hoses etc. or is it really more of a case that the BBA spores(?) are always present and will thrive when conditions suit it ?

You can't bleach the plants. With them, you may rest assured you'll introduce rich microflora, no matter what.
I don't think that embryos of all algae are permanently present everywhere. Yet you cannot avoid that sooner or later some of them will find their way to your tank, and if conditions are suitable, they'll propagate. So the only way is to keep the conditions less suitable.

Absolutely :)
