Aquasoil Powder increases Diatoms?

Sorry if this is obvious but...

Why would someone say that in my nano (11w over 14 litres) has "low light" and combine that with aquasoil powder, and that it...

Sounds like a possible recipe for brown, fluffy diatoms.

I know aqua soil releases ammonia for the first few weeks and when disturbed it also releases ammonia.

Ammonia and light will more than likely cause brown algae (diatoms)

high light causes diatoms does it not?

i cant see that amazonia wouldbe a cause of diatoms. it happens in most tanks and especially nanos regardless of amazonia IME

They've responded saying that it wasn't low light, their mistake but...

Still, that fine clay substrate may contain silicates that are more easily suspended than in its compacted, granule form.

Does that mean it releases more silicates over time due to the increased surface area?
