I was planning on buying moss balls online, but not sure if it's safe in the UK because of the Mussels in the US.

Thanks, wasn't sure if it also affected the tank or pipes, so was just a bit wary

I’d love to grow some Mussels but I think the chances of you having an issue regarding Zebra Mussels in the tank are slim to none. They may be native to the Ukraine and as such it’s an epicentre and they will be distributed fairly wildly around the region, Birds will likely carry them all over Europe and Eurasia, the migration routes over the Atlantic are lengthy and reduces the amount of species dramatically that will come into contact and thus harbour and transport.
Shipping and ballast is the worst offender, your tank with a Moss ball is likely the least and because of the amount of time you’ll be looking at it you can take action if necessary.
The risk is not zero but at least you are aware!
