I have a banded leporinus, that occasionally will whip his side against the floor of the tank.
Is this something that I should be worried about?,
If so what should I do?

if its only occcasional then its probably just his thing (I have a yoyo loach that does the same occasionally) if its more often/regular then it could be ich/itch (can never decide how to spell it :) )

Yes,
I had a loach as well that did the same,
But then I read information about itch and began to wonder.

Happy to just write it off as a macho move.

Would you say this is common amongst other fish as well? I've noticed one of my Kribs do this recently but only a could of times.

IME all fish flick from time to time. If your worried just keep an eye out for any signs of disease or parasites. If you've got an itch you can't help but scratch it. I don't see why fish would be any different
